Why does WBA have 3 champions in each weight class?

This whole multiple champion charade in WBA has been close to a decade now, and there has been many funny stories about it.

One that I know and probably one of the funniest is in the Featherweight division during 2011-2013. Originally, 'Super Champion' is a not a title, but more like a priviledge. It was only given to WBA champion who has another organization belt as well. It gave the holder a chance to unify the title with other belt holders without needing to worry of mandatory fight. But later WBA, of course, was getting greedy and start to make it into a permanent one by creating a whole new level with criteria they set by themselves.

Chris John was a sole 126 lbs WBA champion from 2004 to 2009. But later he was elevated to 'Super Champion' without unifying with any other belt as WBA has set up new rules where a champion who defended his title 10x is entitled to be a super champion. Later, WBA held a world championship bout between Gamboa and Rojas, which won by Gamboa. The Cuban was crowned as world champion, but de facto one is still Chris John. Not long after that, Gamboa won a 'unification' fight against Salido who held the IBF belt. Therefore, Gamboa is now entitled to be a 'super champion'. However, instead of making him one, WBA elevated him to be 'Unified Champion', which ironically is still rated below John. Meanwhile, WBA held another title match for the 'regular' title which is now vacant and won by Argentinian Barros. And in the same time, they placed Caballero as 'interim champion' (which according to WBA, it's their new term of an official challenger ). That made four champions in WBA 126 lbs division.

Now, this is the funny part...Seeing that a dualism of 'super champion' between John and Gamboa has made WBA subject of criticism and laughing stock, the organization instructed John to immediately to fight Gamboa as mandatory within two months without consulting it with both parties. The problem is, both John and Gamboa had already set up plan to fight with other opponents. John against Yordan and Gamboa against Jorge Solis. John's promoter somehow convinced the WBA to reschedule the mandatory bout after both completed their planned fight and Gamboa's camp were also fine with it since they have upcoming fight in hand too. Few months later, both fought their respective title matches. John managed to defeat his countryman. However, an unxpected thing happened, Gamboa failed his IBF 2nd weigh-in (Note: Unlike other organizations, IBF required two times weigh-in to ensure stay close to their designated weight limit). As the result, Gamboa lost his IBF title though completely destroyed Solis. Since he practically no longer a 'unified champion' and there is no way to downgrade him back to regular champion, WBA stripped him in favor of Jonathan Barros. In another word, Gamboa was stripped eventhough he won the match and didn't violate any WBA rule just because he violated other organization rule.

You know what, recalling the whole event and wrote it here makes me laugh my ass off. I once chatted with my boxing journalist friend. He once asked about the whole situation to Chris John and John only replied "I am also confused about it myself...." :p

Yep, or it could end in a controversial draw.

it gets dumber and dumber. I don't know why the organizations are ruining themselves by not limiting the belts. It makes winning a belt less significant.

They need to hold multiple tournaments in each of the weight classes to sort out once and for all who is the super regular interim diamond champion of the world. Is Joshua really better than Manuel Charr? Is Beibut Shumenov the true king at cruiserweight? These questions need to be answered.
