He more than likely never beats a Wilder, joshua or Fury but below that he's among the best. Deserves a shot. Beating Parker, which he did, shouldn't be rubbished just because Parker lost to AJ. Lets remember he knocked him down unlike Joshua. If Fury and Wilder are tied up who has a better record than Wilder who can also sell?
He got a gift against Chisora and didn't convincingly beat Parker either, despite getting advantageous scoring and a blind referee. He hasn't defeated anyone else worth talking about. To his credit, he's at least taking a rematch with Chisora now, but somehow that fight is being priced at £19.95 PPV. Whyte's win over Parker made him a contender. I'd like to see him rematch Parker if he wins against Chisora. But he's getting the Joshua fight probably, which isn't so interesting. Good luck to him.
Should get more respect as he has improved his fitness and worked as hard as he can to fulfil his potential. Deserves credit for the Parker fight even if he benefitted from a head butt. He put it on Parker who did not want any of the ugly stuff. I seem to be in a minority but I felt he took a close but clear decision against Chisora. Del Boy arguably is landed the 10 best punches but I thought Dillian had a higher work-rate and controlled rounds with his jab. For the 1st AJ fight, he was injured and he is much improved now. However, what is overlooked in the 1st fight is he got a lot of recovery time after being dropped heavily in round 1. AJ could finish it earlier against an improved Whyte.
That's a fair point. What I meant was that he is in a unique situation because of how much Joshua wants to fight him This content is protected from 13:55 onwards
Hmmm.... Just to counter-point most of the posts so far in this thread: Whyte has a good take on all-comers attitude. He obviously trains hard and, whilst not having an engine like Parker or T Fury, can fight for 12 at a good pace for the HW division. He's a solid, hard punching unit with a great chin. He goes for max damage, not looking to cruise to a points win. He appears to be improving tactically, physically and mentally with every fight. Let's not get carried away with the hate, if he was from anywhere but the UK he would arguably be the best HW in the country. Hardly sh1t....
Whyte is a good workman type contender, and with that he deserves a shot. But don't act like he's a rreal threat to Joshua's reign, because he isn't. Many here already mentioned the holes in his otherwise quite impressive resume for a contender, as he might as well have been 22-3 at this point.
Whyte has had a good run in 2018 but that "will fight any man" stuff is still poppycock. He just likes to call out pretty much everybody. Took him two years to give Chisora a rematch, the fight everyone and their mama wanted...except Dillian Whyte. Also ducked Ortiz twice this year. No wonder the old man has high blood pressure.
He did not duck Ortiz, he took a fight for more money. Why would he want to fight Wilder? but duck Ortiz does not make sense. Look at him compared to Breazle, Whyte is keeping active taking dangerous fights..while Breazle is just sitting waiting for the pay day. I hope Whyte wins a world title and gets more support.
More to the point because Hearn has both fighters and know they can get big numbers on PPV pushing the, these guys hate each other narrative.
Spot on this. Although I do agree with the posts about him never going to be world champion etc. He’s a tough world level competitor, he’s probably 6th in the world behind the big 3 and arguably Povetkin and Ortiz. I think with Whyte there’s a sense that he hasn’t earned his place and he’s only there because of his rivalry with AJ, it’s not true. He’s went out and carved a good career for himself - something I’ll admit that I didn’t think he could do. I thought he would have disappeared into oblivion after that destruction. Parker is a better win than anything on Wilder’s record bar Ortiz, anything on Fury’s record bar Klitschko. He deserves respect.
“Like that”? He suffered a horrific cut and could barely see against one of the best jabs in the division. Hughie would put a real schooling on that thug.
