I noticed in a recent ESB poll that many people are picking Haye to KO Wlad. Klitschko is still favored in the poll but not by that much. I also noticed that The Ring (or at least one writer at the magazine) had Wlad at #42 in their year end p4p rankings. He was sandwiched between Zoldt Erdei and an Indonesian flyweight I have never heard of. How can this be? Is Klitschko really on par with Zoldt Erdei? Wlad dominates his division to a greater extent than almost anyone in boxing. While Haye is a great cruiserweight he would seem to be a very heavy underdog in the fight. I have Wlad as a borderline top 10 p4p fighter. So can someone who agrees that Wlad is only a top 50 or so p4p fighter give me 1-2 reasons why he is so lightly regarded? Let's not turn this into a hate fest. Just a few factual reasons are what I am looking for.
Pound 4 Pound Haye's Chin is way worse than Wlad's is. Haye has an abysmal Glass Jaw. Wlad could possibly KO him with a Jab.
I used to think that if Wlad beats Haye impressively and then unifies against the Valuev/Chagaev winner, he will get the respect he is due. But I now believe that he will never get the respect, even if he wins all 4 belts (when Vitaly retires).
how can his chin be the worst? he's only lost 3 fights yeah they were ko's but he also won 40 something fights that he didnt get ko'd in and he also totally destroyed most of those fighters probably losing fewer rounds then alot of greater fighters did
Just because people pick Haye, doesn't mean they hate Wlad or they disrespect him by picking Wlad.Just means that they think Haye will win the fight
The reason he doesnt get respect is multiple-fold. 1). he doesnt fight in America (i mean poll the same people in Germany and they'll probably tell you he's p4p the greatest ever). 2). he's about as fun to watch as grass growing next to drying paint. and 3). he's seen as dominating a division that is absolutely horrible right now. He doesn't receive any respect because we don't give any respect to those fighters he's beaten.
To be fair,Haye has no real KO losses on the slate so to label him glass jawed maybe a bit strong but he knows if a heavy hits him clean he will go over,he has said so himself
Good points think you have highlighted the problem. He did fight at MSG in 08 in a unification but the fight had a lot of anticipation surrounding it but didn't live up to it
Thanks - this is what I was looking for (though I may disagree). Will Wlad get more respect if he KOs Haye impressively? Any chance he will ever be a top 10 p4p in your eyes? Does a victory over Chagaev mean anything to you?
i have big respect for wlad, people knock is style but it doesnt matter he still kicks ass against anyone in hw devision at the moment
You seriously under rate the division and the opponents Wlad has beaten & how easily he has beaten them. Need I remind you of how pathetic the division was when Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Larry Holmes & Mike Tyson reigned? Holmes fought Tex Cobb for the HW title, imagine all the haters if Wladimir fought Tex Cobb! Joe Louis had the famous "bum of the month" club because the talent pool was so thin.
I think you'll find that many of the votes for Haye in that thread were by "alias" posters, meaning they are just alter egos of the same handful of haters.
