Why does Wlad never get any love on P4P rankings??

Wlad is on mine (#10) as he dominates his division like few others. He holds 2 of the belts and has beaten 1 of the other 2 champs (Peter).

If Wlad beats Thompson and Povetkin impressively he MAY start appearing as #10 on some lists.

There is no shortage of people on ESB predicting a Thompson win on 7/12. These very same clowns will waste no time in claiming that Wlad fights weak competition after he KO's "Tony the Tiger" in 2 rounds.

I've seen it before with Ray Austin and Derrick Jefferson. Whenever an American Hope who is the same size as Wlad pops up, certain people get excited.

Wlad is good at using his height (most notably in hugging and leaning) and jabs/crosses (which are with good power and timing).

But that's where his skill-set stop (have you seen him effectively throw an uppercut or bodyshot in his last few fights?)

Combine that with the few devastating losses he suffered (of which the one from smaller Cory Sander was the most brutal loss) and the recent (non)quality opponents he faced, and you got your answer.

You don't become P4P on your own. You have to beat P4P quality guys to become one in my eyes.

Probably because his style can be so negative at times. His fight against Ibragimov was painful to watch.

    :-(

Despite the fact that he's proved himself to be the most dominant heavy out there since Lewis, in no way does he command the same presence of being the best out there that Lewis did. All but the most ignorant of fans knew Lewis was the man, and he generally went in against his opposition as a heavy favourite. Wlad doesn't command the same kind of authority, even in a division that's way weaker than when Lewis was around.

That said, I'd still have the man in my top 15 current p4p (albeit lower down) purely for what he's achieved in his career thus far.

Following on from what I just said, some fans probably put too much emphasis on how exciting a fighter's style is over the achievements they make, but this might also go a long way in explaining why Klit the younger doesn't score too highly on many people's p4p lists...

Just out of curiosity, what would it take for you guys to put Wlad in your p4p lists. For example, what if he beats the following over the next 5 fights:

    Thompson
    Povetkin
    Peter
    Haye
    Valuev or Chagaev

I had him ranked as high or higher than most when we were posting top 30 P4P lists. I had him at 9 I think, but don't quote me exactly on that since my brain's not working properly today.

I can give a hoot about P4P but Wlad needs to show us he can beat guys like Valuev, Ruiz, Golota, etc.

Wlad would be derided for fighting Ruiz and Golota.

Is there anything Vlad could do to appear on a p4p list? Does he do it if he beats Thompson (Ring Magazine #9) and Povetkin (Ring magazine #5)? Albeit in very boring fashion, but keep in mind he did just beat Ibragimov (Ring magazine # 6) and he already has beat Sam Peter (Ring Mag #2). When he unifies?

I agree his style is straight forward, but so was Lewis'. When you are that big, ask Manny and he'll tell you: use the jab.

Lennox was on the P4P lists I believe at #10 or so. He deserved to be as well.
