Because it leaves him too open. He isn't comfortable with that and I'm not surprised with his disgraceful chin.
He doesn't have the ability. He could of got Wach tko'd early with a sustained attack to head and body that would of forced the ref to call halt. He just didn't have the skills.
He's a percentage fighter, by going to the body he negates his height and reach advantages and therefore put's himself at risk of being hit (Low Percentage). He is not a well versed inside fighter anyways. Lewis had some tricks on the inside, even the one where Manny taught him to wave his left hand to clinch and then slip with a quick uppercut, he used this on Klitschko in their fight.
Yeah, I think that's it. But when he has the guy on the ropes, like he had Haye many times, a massive hook to the liver area doesn't seem like much of a danger and can help tremendously. Looks like he got drawn too much in his safety first approach, maybe someone should tell him that.
Yeah it leaves him too open, I understand that. I do think he needs to mix up his head attack though, it was just 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 onto Pianeta's guard in his last fight.
Never is a bit of a misnomer seeing as he did go to the body a few times, and you could see him doing it on the mits with Banks as well. He does it very rarely though mostly because it does leave him open and he is so very accurate just going to the head.
Practically the same with Haye and Wach.. just an occasional left hook, no three punch combinations, no uppercut just 1-2's over and over again.. And it' not like he can't do anything else, his offence in the Mercer fight was tremendous. I think he should use some of his aggresiveness from that period, just some.. He has reasons to play it safe but this is too much, unnecessary. Not when the fighter is slick and focused on defence like Haye. That's the time to adjust.
Completely agree. I totally understand why he doesn't goto the body, makes complete sense. But no one can convince me that throwing in some hooks etc, being a bit more creative will leave him vulnerable.
That would be the absolute worst target to go to the body, even though his head work was not very accurate he completely shut down Haye's offense with the jab. If he went for the body there he would be in range with his hands down..... People to go to the body to would be the guys covering up with their hands way too high like Wach did.
He did do some body work on Wach. But Wach is made of iron and steroids. I think he realises just how many of his opponents are looking to put him out with one shot. Really that's what a lot of their gameplans come down to. Going to the body gives them that shot a lot easier. That's why he only goes there sparingly. Really he doesn't need to, his game is fine as it is. Just like Ali was fine without significant bodywork.
