Why doesnt aaron pryor get hardly any mention

I would say no. Calzaghe has a longer reign, but Pryor has the better win and a great fight under his belt. The great fight thing does elevate guys. But even Arguello was moving up in weight.

 

Pryor was at least 10 times the fighter Calzaghe was!

 

His time on time lasted about as long as a fart in a hurricane, and his best win was a blown up 130 pounder.

 

Pryor was the greatest 140 pounder of all time IMO. Drugs curtailed his career and talent. I would have loved to see him fight Pacquiao, Whitaker, JCC, Mayweather, Duran and SRR prime for prime at 140. Pryor would have a good chance at beating any of those guys. Really under appreciated and under sung fighter. The Panama Lewis scandal hurt his legacy in some people's eyes, but he came back and destroyed Arguello in the rematch.

Aaron was like a gasoline fire... a big flame that quickly dissapaited. While he was at his best , he sure did seem formidible . Pryor was really a lightweight , but moved to 140 just to get fights.
When Aaron challenged Antonio Cervantes for the 140 lb title, Cervantes had lost only once in 8 years, and that was a split decision to Wilfred Benitez.
Certainly no one had EVER walked right through Cervantes like Pryor did , stopping the long time champ in just 4 rounds.
After winning the title, Pryor had openly challenged Duran, Leonard, and Hearns , but no one seemed to think that fighting Pryor was worth the risk.
In defense of his 140 lb title, Pryor had been floored and made to struggle a bit against some forgetable challengers, but always came back to win big. Some of the glory of the Arguello fights was diminished by the between rounds antics of Panama Lewis, who was mixing up potions for Pryor to drink in his corner. But the Arguello fights are Pryors signature wins.
After the 2nd Arguello fight, Pryor began to fade noticeably struggling with club fighters and fringe contenders. He retired for two years, still unbeaten , but was no where near himself when he got KO'd by club fighter Bobby Joe Young.
His drug problems are well known, but he finally got himself together. He is a regular at the Hall of Fame Weekends, where he used to hang tight with his old rival Arguello and was one of the most approachable and friendly ex fighters I've ever met.
Cool guy, and he had his day, but his prime was short lived.

 

He would have never laid a glove on Camacho.....but he would destroy Pacquiao.......Pacquiao is just to easy to hit.

 

JCC vs Aaron Pryor would have been immense.

 

Why do people act like Pryor is some underrated obscure guy?

He's considered one of the greatest 140 lb fighters ever. The Ring, for some odd reason, ranked him so highly he was like 30 spots all time ahead of Tommy Hearns. He's seen as this guy that the big name WWs avoided even though he turned down career high paydays against both Leonard and Duran. He's ranked very highly at 140 both H2H and achievements at the weight.

Where is this "underrating" you people speak of?
