Why doesn't anybody talk about Orlando Canizales

I can only imagine how great of a fight between Canizales and Barrera would have turned out. Barrera would have certainly have beaten a past prime Canizales and perhaps not suffer any career bumps like he did when he lost to Jones twice. His career would look a bit different.

I thought he beat Vazquez personally but was well beaten by Jones, Jones kept him on the outside and Canizales was never really able to get inside and do what he does best.

Speaking of which 2 wins over Barrera x2 and Canizales ain't bad is it for a chinny fighter ?

I was actually more impressed that Jones outboxed Barrera in the 2nd fight.

The Vazquez fight was tight that could have gone either way. Vazquez hit Canizales with sharper shots.

Jones definitely outboxed Canizales at range but it was still a good effort from Canizales. Jones was quite a talented fighter whose biggest weakness was his chin, stamina, and poor defense. If he had gotten with someone like Emmanuel Steward he could have improved and gone a bit further with his talents. Still bothers me that people hold Barrera's loss to Jones against him when Jones was far from a bum.

I had Vasquez beating Canizales 7-5. It was definitely a fight that could have been a draw, or could have been 7-5 Canizales.

But I guess that kind plays into the point @McGrain was trying to make. Canizales is a guy who is sometimes compared with Gomez. Can't beat Wilfredo Gomez if you can't even beat Wilfredo Vasquez.

I never really cared all that much for lighter-weight boxers, but Orlando Canizales was always a favorite of mine.

At his best, he moved almost effortlessly. He was one of the few fighters I've ever seen who I would describe as a true artist in the ring.

Good point. Both the Canizalez brothers were excellent fighters who had solid careers, and are - sadly - largely forgotten today.
