Why doesn't Bradley have punching power?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Anthony Birts, Apr 3, 2014.

  1. He's a pretty big dude, so the average person assumes he hits hard. Is it his technique? Does he have punching power? Is it respectable?

Its respectable, he busted up Ruslan's face. Bradley may not be a KO Artist but this is boxing, if the right punch connects anything can happen.

He doesn't sit down on his punches. He throws a lot of arm punches.

He has average power, but goes more for the shoeshine approach, he busted Ruslan's face and rocked Marquez

Just one of those things. It's like asking why somebody doesn't have speed.

Doesn't get his shoulders into his punches. They're arm punches, which is why his speed is so good. But clearly they don't feel good to be hit by. Could definitely hit hard if he threw correctly because it would take advantage of his build, but he does alright anyhow.

Poor technique (poor scapular rhythm) and chicken legs

He gets his punches to his opponent quickly but the speed they're actually moving at is slow, instead of accelerating as they go out due to the summation of the different links of the kinetic chain, they are actually slowing down and thrown with little force or velocity

And again with speed there are plenty of possible explanations (lever length/physiology/training etc.)

It's in the technique. Just cause he has big muscles doesn't mean he should be a 1 punch KO guy.

I know why it is, he's scared of whats coming back when he sits on his punches. How Bradley has avoided being knocked out is down to his skill and ability to roll punches because I still say his chin is only just above khan level.Everytime I've seen Bradley hit with a big punch he's looked a little flakey imo but it's hard to land a good one on him as he's good at rolling and leaning away to lessen the blow.He also ducks illegally low a lot which american boxers seem to have license to do.
