Genetics. He just lacks the ¨punchers gene¨. You'll never be a puncher without it, no matter how hard you train or bulk up your body Look at Naseem Hamed, his frame and punching technique were nothing to write home about, yet he almost decapitated people Hamed obviously had the right genes for punching. there are many examples like this
It's his technique, he doesn't turn his punches over and tends to slap. What strange is, he's a very good body puncher, go figure. However, Bradley does hurt most of his opponents, of his last 10 fights, Pacquiao is probably the only one he didn't have in any type of trouble
There are many examples of an extraordinarily simple mind, like this. Hamed had tree trunk legs and trained them explosively, it would be shocking if he didn't have power.
because he wasnt born with it. period. just like how some of us can dunk and some of us cant even touch the rim. youre bornwith real power.
Whenever people talk about "he is big, he should hit hard," I just think of one name: Tommy Hearns. That guy was a skinny rail, and was one of the hardest hitters EVER. He was someone who could literally knock you out cold with one shot, it didn't even need to be full power. He so happened to be a skinny rail too, yet he knocked Duran out freaking cold, and was a rarity in that he carried his power with him all the way to cruiserweight. There have been other guys, such as Alexis Arguello who were skinny rails, and had dynamite in their fists, but no one epitomizes this concept more than Hearns. Julian Jackson was quite lanky too, honestly size means nothing. Lets go back to a basic concept of physics here, FORCE = MASS x ACCELERATION. Something smaller, that is moving faster can hit just as hard, if not harder, than something big, that is moving much slower. You might be able to bench double your weight, doesn't mean you can punch worth a ****. Punching is a SNAPPING motion, not a pushing motion. Finally, genetics play a part, not every strong guy is huge to begin with, it all depends on genetics. Plenty of huge, ripped guys, who get outlifted by guys with very little muscle definition. For those of you who are American Football fans, Bob Lilly comes to mind. He had almost zero muscle definition, looked like he never saw a weight room, yet was the strongest dude on the team. People's bodies respond differently to lifting, not everyone has muscles that hypotrophy in response to lifting, well other guys like Tyson and Liston were huge naturally, even as teenagers.
I'm sure Hamed was naturally a puncher, but he did other things that made his power so remarkable. For starters, the punches you don't see, are the ones that **** you up the worst. He punched from some of the craziest angles out there, especially his leaping uppercuts, which I think were his most devastating punch. Second off, he threw his entire body into punches, he wasn't concerned about getting whacked for doing so, which is why he was so susceptible to flash knockdowns. He actually had a good chin, he just was off balance so often from his crazy punches, that he could be easily knocked down if you caught him leaping in. He was a master at throwing punches people didn't see coming, and got leverage you will rarely see, that combination led to a devastating puncher. With that said, that was his ultimate downfall too. Yeah, he was lackadaisical in his training, and lost motivation towards the end, but a guy like Barerra beats any version of Hamed, in my opinion. Unorthodox is good, but Hamed got so used to being able to knock out C level fighters with his crazy style, that he failed to ever learn fundamentals. A skilled boxer who could avoid the crazy leaping punches, counter effectively, and wasn't scared of his power, was always going to give Hamed crazy trouble. Barerra had all the aforementioned skills, and the truly invaluable asset of a good chin, he was the perfect recipe to beat Hamed.
Long levers create more impulse, the trade off is speed. You have short arms you can punch faster, you have long arms/legs you can punch harder. As a general rule. Simple Biomechanics.
chicken legs got nothing to do with punching power. you either got it or you don't. punchers come in all shape and sizes. Bob foster and Tommy Hearns had Chicken legs. Both of these men where capable of decapitating their opponent.
Plenty of guys with thundering power who had short arms, think Marciano and Tua. While having shorter arms means less distance to travel, generally stocky people have bigger bones and are more muscled, which heavier objects travel slower. Lots of factors that determine these things
Bradley moves a lot and does not set down on his punches, if he did it would slow him down. Bradley is a volume puncher...............
I can imagine kids yelling "pillow fight!" and then they realize they have no pillows, so they just use Bradley's fists instead.
