Why doesn't Calzaghe fight Chad Dawson?

    Why doesn't Dawson rematch Johnson?

Dawson is the only fighter out there who could , IMO, be given a 50/50 chance against Calzaghe, and if Calzaghe were to fight again, that's the one I would want to see.

The rest, he's either beaten or would most likely beat.

But if he were to fight and beat Dawson, another name would pop up.

    Diaconu.

    Erdei.

    Whomever.

So no matter when he retired, someone would say he was ducking somebody.

And if he stays on, he will eventually lose. He's already slipped considerably.

    He's 37. Dawson's 27.

Should he end his career like Roy, or Evander, or many others who didn't know when to quit ?

He's leaving with his health and near the top of his game, something few in this sport do.

Why don't you slip in a panty-liner and take a couple of aspirin.

You'll feel better iin a few days.

    At least till next month.

You know... Dawson isn't one handed, old, basically limited, fatally flawed, or at some other overt disadvantage. Why would Calzaghe actually fight someone he isn't almost entirely certain he has a better than great chance of beating? That would be crazy.

What Joe meant was there were no former champions age 40 or over on the decline that he could beat in his weight class.

While I think that Dawson would beat Joe, I can understand why he doesnt want that fight...Joe dont want to fight anymore, once that happens fighters lose..You cant blame a guy for retiring, its his right...Truth be told there is always going to be the NEXT guy to fight...If he were to fight and beat Dawson the people would be calling for him to fight someone eles, were does it stop???

Far too risky, it's not Calzaghe's style.

Pro boxing isn't a case where the career guys get many opportunities to bow out on their terms, with their faculties still intact. If you go on too long, it's less and less likely you retire, and more likely that the sport retires you. It's pretty crazy that he's been in nearly 50 pro fights with the aggressive style he's got and has never had a broken nose, for example.

As for Dawson, he does have the best chance of beating Calzaghe; but I think he's had some missteps that really aren't his fault, but severely hurt his bargaining power to seriously get on Calzaghe's or Hopkins' radar. Dropping his belt by ignoring Diaconu so he entered the Tarver negotiations with zero leverage, thus having to accept a rematch clause was one of them; his promoter's complete lack of spending to promote him and help build his name value is another culprit, and holding the rematch in the exact same venue that only sold 300 tickets the first time around didn't help matters, either.

At least Chad's got HBO backing him now, and a hungry HBO on the lookout for new blood at that. It's just a shame that they won't get his name built up in time to get a fight with either of the old dogs at the top of the heap.

Calzaghe might be a bit young for Dawson.

Weren't his last two opponents over 40 ?

 ^ Actually neither Tarver nor Johnson were even yet 40... Still, it was an entertaining remark.

...........I think it's best if we factor all the reality into it. Calzaghe can fight whoever he wants and he chooses to fight fossils and limited threats. Dawson is just a little ****er on the way up trying to build his credentials. Completely different.

I think it's the same as the Lacy match up for JoeCal, before they fought Lacy was gonna give Joe the ass whooping of his life. After he got schooled Lacy was suddenly green and not ready for him.

Same applies here. He's retired, I hope he stays retired. Like he said there's no one out there to get him motivated etc.
