Are people still debating this point? The guy is turning 37. He's been boxing since he was 11. He has a wife and 2 kids. His main goal in boxing was to become undisputed champion, he achieved it. Has more money than he'll ever spend. He beat the 2 legends he wanted to, albeit too late but they're on his resume, something he had to do. The hunger just isn't there anymore plus his family want him to stop. I'd like him to fight a couple more times sure but I'm not going to whine about it. Just let it go guys........
If Dawson is still undefeated and considered top 3 pound for pound next year I think Joe will agree to it.
I think if Dawson were to make himself a big name in the states in the next year or so this fight could still happen.
I think it will happen. It's the only fight Calzaghe didn't rule out point blank. Dawson's not a big enough name yet but if he get's his skates on and bolsters his credentials in the next 12 months I say it goes ahead.
I think thats about right,he has been fighting and training all his life and made a fortune he just feels there is no need to take another high risk fight for very little money. He deserves to enjoy his retirment.
I don't see how Calzaghe v Dawson isn't a huge fight that HBO would back and they'd sell 80k in Cardiff! Joe didn't want to go after a big fight. He thought he is special and everyone should go after him. After waiting he realised people won't chase him like he is DLH and retired.
