Manny Pacquiao 4 fights ago was a Super Featherweight, and Juan Manuel Marquez 3 fight ago was also a Super Featherweight. Miguel Cotto some would say is a "Natural Welterweight" more so than Mayweather (?).... My Question is: Why doesnt Cotto get criticized for fighting a Super Featherweight? Why are people bashing Mayweather for fighting a guy the same size that Cotto is fighting? The fact is that Pac has only 1 more fight above Super Featherweight than Marquez. When Pac moved up to fight De La Hoya it was his first fight at that weight. Marquez is doing the same thing that Pac did. So why is there no criticizm aimed towards Miguel Cotto and tons of hate generated at Mayweather? I am not opposed to either fight. I love Mega Fights and I am a fan of all 4 fighters, but I see too much criticism towards Mayweather, when Miguel Cotto is doing the same thing....
Pac has proven himself capable at 140 and 147, that's the fundamental difference although I see the point you're trying to make. I think people constantly starting threads about these matters in order to split hairs is becoming a little tiresome though.
Because Manny has fought at 147 and 140 before so they know he is a world class opponent there. Oscar may not have offered much opposition but Manny clearly is as good there as he is at superfeather. Plus he will be a significant underdog and is making a sacrifice by going down 2 pound. Mayweather is making a opponent jump 2 divisons (even though he had only being a lightweight for about a year) and who is 37. Plus people just love to hate Mayweather because of the way he comes across. It makes $$$ sense, while Cotto is much more himself and likeable to boxing fans. In his last 5 fights he fought 3 hugely avoided boxers, you can't say that about Mayweather.
but he didnt prove himself @140 until after he jumped to 147 right from 135.....the same thing that Marquez is doing..... The same people who think Marquez handled Pac or beat him, are the same people who think Marquez is a better boxer, but they dont want Marquez to fight Mayweather, yet they think Pac cant beat Mayweather... baffles me
Again I see your point but had Pac jumped straight up to Mayweather then you would've heard the same things. Do you give JMM any chance in this fight?
why does everyone say this same thing? Manny didnt fight at 140 or 147 before me made the jump from 135...the same thing Marquez is doing now...and actually Manny Moved up to 147...Marquez is fighting 3 lbs below that.... is the hate stemming from how good people believe Mayweather is to Marquez?..I just dont understand why Cotto doesnt get the hate?..
No, or Pac, or Cotto.... but none of these fighters are chumps and they might be the best fighters Mayweather might face...
= It's just another double standard when it comes to Mayweather. After Floyd destroys Manny they'll call him an overrated smaller fighter just like they did Hatton. Mayweather will make Pac look that bad.
I think people are just going to have to accept Floyd upsets a lot of people with his attitude. Nobody should feel bad about this as Floyd has chosen to embody this persona in order to sell tickets.
Based on Pacquiaos past performances, people regard him in a different light. When the fight with Oscar was made, plenty of people were criticising DLH for picking on a small guy. We were all proved wrong. Also, Pacquiao called out Cotto and no-one would criticise Mayweather for taking a Pacquiao fight either, while JMM just went life and death with Juan Diaz at 135.
First . . . because Miguel Cotto didn't pushed for this fight . . . it was team Pac. Second . . . Pac has shown and proven he has it to fight at 140 by KOing out Hatton . . . weight difference between Pac and Cotto is not that much. JMM's last fight was at 135 he is now fighting at 144 against PBF. That's a big difference. Third . . . Cotto hasn't bragged just like Mayweather does. It's the guy's character. :deal
Yeah, falls in the same bracket. If he wasn't perceived as an arrogant loud mouth I can guarantee people would have less of a problem with this fight. Don't you agree?
