I like Floyd and I think he has great boxing abilities but common the best talented fighter at 147 he hasn't fought any 147 pounders in years.TO answer your question why Floyd is a 5 to 1 favorite is simple people don't give Marquez any chances and I think the line could be higher.
Logically, if he didn't FIGHT there he wouldn't have proven to be capable, correct? People **** on DLH for bringing up him because he was "unproven". Fact is, these guys need to fight up to prove themselves, it doesn't come in a text book what they're capable or not capable of. If not against Mayweather then he would have against someone else. He's simply doing what Pac's team asked him to do if he wanted a third fight, move up and get a major victory comparabale of Pac's victories over Hatton and DLH. JMM doesn't have time to waste to move up and take another crap money fight, it's big fights all the way at this point.
Don't take odds too seriously. Only recently Hopkins went in as a huge underdog against Pavlik, Pac a huge underdog against DLH, Agbeko a huge underdog against Darchinyan and many more.
It's not confusing. I do believe concrete was there in Margarito's gloves but it's his style that troubled Cotto and his nonstop aggression. Cotto was able to back Mosley off with some shots and Mosley wasn't as aggressive as he was supposed to be, he never kept the punches up and was constantly waiting in there. What troubles Cotto is nonstop aggression, regardless of how affective it is, just nonstop punches and having the ability to handle his power. That usually confuses/troubles Cotto who doesn't have good defense to block most of it.
Your point of reference is somewhat muddled. Mayweather right now is where Hoya was when he fought Pac. Meaning, Hoya asked someone to go up to a division that the fighter had never been before, and jumping TWO weight classessing the 140 division. The good thing with HOya, as compared to the YELLOW MAYWEATHER (it actually rhymes) is that he met Pac midway at 147. Hoya fights at middleweight, yet he came down to welter (which was probably too much at that point in his career). Mayweather on the other hand just asked the other fighter to jump two division higher. Cotto right now is not in the same situation as Mayweather. Pac had fought already at this division, even in dominant fashion, albeit against a protein depleted HOya. The FACT remains uncontested : 1. Mayweather asked JMM to fight at 144, instead of meeting him at 140-141, which is midway where their optimal weights are. Even EZE was saying that Mayweather could easily do it at 140, yet fight at 144? Why? Because according to EZE, JMM challenged Mayweather. 2. Mayweather is getting the lion's share of the purses. That alone should be a bargaining chip to at least give some favor to the smaller fighter, like weight concession. To summarize, Mayweather is being criticized because he ****ed up JMM big time. Those who disagree are simply nuthuggers. When you get the liomn's share of the purse, the terms of weights, probably even the ring size, plus the fact that he is the younger, bigger, more skillful, faster, more powerful at this weight, just basically everything to make the fight roll in your favor, that is ****ing the other guy big time. Another thing, JMM even at 135 was not exactly that masterful anymore and only his huggers see it otherwise. That is simply not the case with Cotto. The ring size of 20 foot favors Pac, the 8 ounces gloves, the less amount relative to Pac's when it comes to purses, coupled with the fact that Pac ahd already fought at higher weights. I am worried that the boxing glove size in the JMM-May fight would be 10 ounces as well because that would favor Mayweather greatly because of his brittle hands plus that would negate JMM's power.
I wouldn't call cotto the weakest champion. He is much better than wbc champ berto and just beat ibf champ clottey and he also has defeated WBA champ mosley.
Cotto doesnt get a lot of criticism maybe because he already had faced very formiddable welterweights in mosely, margarito & clottey..:deal
