why doesn't cotto just fight out of the southpaw stance?

he fights alot better, in the judah and quintana fight he fought alot better as a southpaw and in the mosley fight the few times he went southpaw he landed hard straight lefts.

i think you're slightly off here, I think that he did well against them because they are both southpaws and so it threw them off their game to suddenly fight cotto in a southpaw stance... cotto is a lot smarter than he gets credit for

It seems to be the "working" trend right now. Maybe trainers are starting young one's off as "switch" hitters for a reason. It sure as hell is working for Cotto, and Pavlik is another fine example. Maybe there's more than meets the eye to having your dominant hand for jabs and hooks. I think I understood that Kessler is ambidextrious aswell. I bet there are others.

Cotto is naturally left handed just like Dela Hoya is but chose to learn to fight conventional to open up there best punch of the arsenal.....the left hook to the body.

:deal I def. agree that Cotto is alot smarter in the ring than he gets credit for too. He showed mad intelligence against Sugar Shane.

i think that there is a definite case to be made for a dominant hand lead, and it seems like big punchers especially could benefit from that. gotta agree about cotto being a smart fighter.

I really think he's most effective as an orthodox fighter, but he should continue to swtich it up, give opponents a different look. Don't get me wrong - he is effective as a southpaw, just not as effective on a consistant basis.
