QUESTION Is, why would you ever say/think anything like that? :huh... What, u want them to make a statue in Philly next to Rocky's & 2x the size, or maybe in the White House front lawn?!?

Lol. This is the fight that put him on the map. Before this destruction of the highly touted Tito Trinidad Hopkins was a nobody in the boxing world despite being a world champ. That win was absolutely huge in boxing. I don't know how he could possibly have recieved any more credit. It changed the way people saw Hopkins and saw Trinidad forever.

Why is beating Tito a great victory?

He beat up a fat welter weight...so what? Hopkins was a MW.

If he had been fighting Surgar Ray Leonard he would have lost.

Most give Hops a lot of credit for the win. Only a few idiots criticize because they claim Tito wasn't a legit middleweight or whatever yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah :blabla Of course, what they fail to see is that Tito filled out very well at the weight, still kept his power, and KOed 3 of his 5 middleweight opponents with 3 knockdowns a piece including the #2 middleweight at the time, William Joppy! So don't give me that Trinidad was too small bull****. :bart

Same reason he gets no credit for beating DLH, both fat Welters. All his best wins are againsed smaller guys.

Following the Trinidad and De La Hoya fights, Hopkins I believe did experience a sharp spike in name recognition and respect. His popularity suffers because his fights are often boring and he's a rough-edged individual. He's also a great talent, though.

:-(Tarver? Hopkins moved up to lt. hvy. to beat a BIGGER man. Really this hate for a fighter shouldn't cloud your knowledge over Hopkins in which you do need to learn more about him. He's been about the same weight as all of the best guys he faced so in no way was he "bigger" than them weight-wise. Plus saying that DLH and Trinidad were "fat welters" discredits their success at MW. In no way were DLH & Trinidad fat welters that's just an excuse.

I'll tell you why ,It was Tito's popularity that him the favorite during the time nothing more ..Knocking out Joppy was not by any means the greatest acheivement so add those factors in plus the fact that Trinidad had no buisness at middle is the reason people don't give Hopkins as much credit .

:goodI know plus Monzon beat a "smaller" Napoles and Hagler beat a "smaller" Duran but I don't hear people bitching about that. They're just hating on Hops which isn't right:bart considering the things he accomplished in his career.

Yes but, also tito has a great punch in both hands, but he is just basics. He relied too much on his power, when hopkins is a student to the game. This is what I meant about Tito not being a middleweight, Tito needs some advantages and fighting in a weight where he can't over power people, it wouldn't work so well for him cause Tito was predictable.

That fight was a god damn masterpiece. What is crazy to me is Bernard was already 36 yrs old back in 2001! I love that fight.

Joppy was a good fighter. I sparred with him. His power is underated.
Tito Had no problems with Joppy whatso ever and Joppy gave me hell
Tito Made him his ***** then Bhop Demolished Tito.
I knew I had a long road if I chose to continue in the sport, I hung em up
Specially loosing 10 out of 30 amature when guys like mosley and floyd would loose that much out of 199 or 170
