    This.

It's easy to toss around accusations and "eye-tests" but without test results (Toney, Mosely) or absolutely convincing circumstantial evidence (Evan Fields) you can't make these judgements... or at least you expect rational observers to take them seriously.

Which is essentially my point regarding those, who out of the blue, accuse Lewis of using PED's. Now like you, I'm not saying he never used him, but that could apply to any boxer, at the end of the day you need proof to convict someone of something, you can't can convict a particular fighter because you don't like the guy.

This is a pretty fair assertion. Certainly, I think the bodybuilding industry played a huge role in making people aware of steroid use, when someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger started looking like a cartoon character, but it easily could have been prevalent well before that, but who really knows for certain, who was and wasn't taking what?

    Yup.

But we shouldn't be so naive as to think every elite fighter isn't pushing the envelope in some way or another and have been doing so for a lot longer than most are willing to admit.

Has there ever been a discussion regarding the use of bennies in boxing? Those go way back and were a staple in US sports since the 40's or 50's.

    Just to remind people ...

    - Ruddock accused Tyson of being on steroids.
    - Ruddock kicked up a fuss about Lewis and a steroids test.
    - Sulaiman said WBC does not prohibit steroids in 1992 !
    - Holmes accused Holyfield of using steroids.
    - Bowe's team accused Golota of using steroids.
    - Lewis's manager accused Golota of using steroids.
    - Golota blamed his defeat to Lewis on being due to an "illegal shot" being administered by his doctor - and won damaged in court.
    - Tyson says if he was fighting these days he'd use "growth hormone"
    - Pulev accused Wlad Klitschko of taking too few tests in his career. Wlad responded "if you don't want to fight me, go home."

    etc. etc.

    It's a well-trodden path.
Yes, throwing accusations around doesn't mean a thing, but it's not some obscure crazy thing made up on the internet, the fighters themselves can't stop raising it.

Somebody must have been doing them. Stimulants are popular in all walks of life.
I mean, even these guys testing positive for cocaine are probably doing so for performance-enhancement. But people tend to dismiss it.

But a lot of this wasn't even considered wrong, let alone "illegal", if we go back far enough.
Even smelling salts have been "banned" in most jurisdictions now, when they used to be a staple requirement for any corner.

But all these 'natural' bodybuilders use prohormones a.k.a. 'legal steroids' and openly admit it.

Also Briggs was caught using steroids in one of his fights

Ruddock better be quiet about Lewis or Tyson as Razor himself bulked up pretty quickly which is suspect :good

Well one thing we know from the Pryor fight, is that antihistamine pills were used as a PED type stimulant.

:good Of course, suspicion must always fall on the men making accusations and pointing fingers just as much as the ones being accused. Just like in the Floyd-Pac saga.

Many have used, at least dabbled, & yes, much was legal or not thought of cheating preveiously.
but many like Lewis are unfairly accused with no compelling evidence.
Including his total sizem & i am not aware of improbably rapid gains when he was already strong. Not with good training & his bone structure.

I am not aware of natural bodybuilders using pro-hormones B.U.
Maybe in certain leagues or organizations? Please enlighten me.

Yes Skip La Cour openly admitted it, and he's probably one of the most famous 'natural' BB'ers.

He's 5'11'' and 213 lbs when in contest shape.

I agree, there's no reason to single out Lewis as a user.

I'd be stunned if boxers, too, weren't using any and all legal advantages at their disposal.

I think pretty much everyone in this thread who has touched upon it has acknowledged that it is likely Briggs is using steroids currently.
