Margarito is never going to 154. He loses his advantage of being able to always walk down his opponents but seriously if he makes the weight who cares. He is a little taller than most at WW but not really physically bigger. I would bet anyone Cotto is stronger, just shorter. He isn't physically bigger than Clottey either. Clottey weighed 170 for a fight at WW. I am no Margarito fan, especially after all his whining after he got flat-out beat by the Punisher, but if a guy can make weight, who cares.
Kirkland is a beast..period.. And when you are fighting Marg, it comes down to who is a bigger beast.. Would be interesting
I don't know how some of you guys manage to breathe. Anyone referring to Santos as a Journeyman reveals their stupid intentions straight away. Why would Margarito go up to Jr MW when he still has work to be done at WW? It is pretty clear his style is reliant on at least being an above average sized fighter for the division (though he was still highly competitive with a very good version of Santos). It is called risk versus reward, just because your riding someone's nutsack doesn't mean you need to completely disregard your basic knowledge of how the sport works. There are several good fights that could still be made at WW where he could establish his dominance over the division, so why would he move up now? Jr MW is the most under appreciated division in boxing, so it is a TERRIBLE division to move into from a financial/hype standpoint. As it represents a very high risk with very low reward.
Whatever the thread starters intentions is trumped by the fact that it's a fun topic to discuss. I think the answer is clear to why Margo stays at 147 and that is because he maintains physical advantages at that weight. He already tested himself at 154 and was far less effective at that weight. My guess is he'll milk 147 for as long as he can make the weight or if he gets an offer that he can't refuse to fight at 154.
