Why doesn't Sergio learn to speak English and how much has this already cost him?

A few moments ago I was looking for some photo's of Sergio and the young bullied girl he took under his wing and found a few web pages like the below, which talk about Sergio doing some stuff for battered women, bullied kids etc.

    http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/story/2012-03-13/boxing-martinez/53540206/1

    http://www.middletownpress.com/articles/2012/04/16/news/doc4f8ca88820cb9873852162.txt

Now I'm thinking that the mainstream media would lap this stuff up, if they were able to interview Sergio and have him respond in good quality English.

Hell there would be no shortage of female friendly shows like The View and Ellen that would be only too happy to have him on(and in turn heaps of other shows too), and it would do wonders for building up his profile in the United States.

But none of that is going to happen if Sergio can't speak English.

For a smart guy, how has he let something like this slip, where because of his low profile, guys like Floyd and Cotto can reasonably mount a case to avoid him, because he doesn't bring enough box office, for such a dangerous opponent.

If Martinez spoke even a minimum of conversational English, he could undoubtedly have been more popular. But honestly, even with his personality and looks, Americans can't ****ing stand giving a guy not born in their country the time of day. The only reason Pacquiao broke the mold is because there's a considerable Pinoy community in the U.S.

  3. Does Sergio really live with his trainer and has no kids? LOL

Perhaps he's already happy with the recognition given to him by the entire Latin world? No need to speak English.

He don't need English, Spanish is quickly becoming the "Language" to speak in the states.
    (Learn Spanish)

In Cali he can survive the rest of his life without a lick of English.

The "Spanish" speaking community is what keeps this sport making $$.

With all these Russians, Filipinos, Mexicans and black p4p champs who learned English in addition to their native language, Sergio got no excuse.

  11. Pacquiao barely speaks English.

    Rubbish.

It might be too late now, but he might have been able to earn anywhere from 2x to 10x what he has earned in the last 5 years, had he learnt to speak English in his late 20's.

Yeah but Pac has Public Speaker of the Century, in Freddie Roach to help fill in the gap.

Sergio's trainers are also non-English speakers. :patsch

Dude what are are you talking about? Miguel Cotto's english is terrible. And a lot of Americans love Cotto, not just Puerto Ricans either.

People really need to get their outdated notions about Americans out of their heads. That **** just isn't a reality.
