Why doesn't Sergio learn to speak English and how much has this already cost him?

No problem. While Sexy is healing he can practice with the Rosetta Stone or whatever the hell it's called.

True, his earning power would have been much more but perhaps he's happy with what he has and therefore has no need to learn English? Why do something unnecessary if he won't need to use it?

If he was so happy, he wouldn't need to offer Floyd an 80/20 deal, and even then, still isn't going to get a fight with Floyd or probably even Cotto.

Sergio could have been the next Oscar, if he had learnt to speak English.

Sergio would be able to dictate who he fights, rather than having to beg.

Considering how smart Sergio apparently is, I'm just shocked at this oversight.

Let's be honest, a boxer isn't usually the brightest in terms of studying anything other than boxing. One of the reasons most turn to boxing is cause academically, they are not upto it, thus learning a new languages won't be easy for them.

Probabl we should remind people that in the Americas most people know only 2 or 3 languages. There are vast stretches where you'll find monolingual or at most bilingual citizens. In US primary education you're only required to learn one non-English languge, and that's probably true for other American countries.

Oscar's Olympic Golden Boy background can't be touched, and boxing was still more relevant on normal TV back then. Sergio has only come into the big time picture in the last three years, and his style prior to the first Williams fight has been streaky in terms of excitement level. Learning some English would probably help him a little in terms of popularity, but not much, he just hasn't been around as long as the big names.

Worth mentioning is Oscar's style is exciting to watch no matter what race the average viewer was while Sergio's style wasn't.

I can't argue with that, mate. It's a good point.
