They hype both guys and have shown a number of there fights, they love 168 and there are probably only 2 or 3 match ups that would be better then this one. None if you don't include fights involving Ward. Doesn't make any sense esp since Bute is under contract why would they reject this fight? The only clear better fight for Bute is Ward and Ward already said he needs to beat a guy like Froch for him to fight him. And Kessler and Dirrell vs Bute might be considered better fights then Bute vs Froch but its questionable and definitely not clear. Definitely one of the stranger moves by a network I've seen turning down such good match up and Showtime is known for there great match ups. Are they scared that Froch will beat Bute and a Ward vs Bute fight would be ruined? That's the only thing i can think of and if that is the case i can understand trying not to make it happen but if its happening why not air it? Hope Showtime isnt goin HBO route and would rather put on showcases than competitive fights.
Maybe they wanted Froch to win a decent fight first in order to help sell the fight to casual fans? I'm not sure. Strange decision, really. I suppose they may think Froch wins, which would be bad for Showtime.
It's a bit strange alright! Maybe it's because they are hoping that he fights Ward in his last contracted match or else because of the time zone differences as the fight would be on to early and people would be at work??
I don't know why, even with Froch coming off a loss (and arguably losing 3/5 fights in the Super Six Tournament) this is a good fight. Should do good numbers, you'd think?
On a Saturday? And if that's the case then show the fight on tape delay also. They have done this many times before. Froch vs Kessler was shown at like 5pm est. That definitely isn't the reason and if they were involved in the making of they fight they probably could had it in the US or had them fight early in the morning euro time like they have done many times before.
If you put the final fight around 11PM...it's 6PM here. On a saturday nigt in may. You go agains what? The NHL or the NBA? I just think that they got top money involve for their last fight with Bute and they don't think they will cover their expense with this one. They must save their option for a fight in the US.
IMO 2 reasons: 1- Plan A was to make the fight with Hopkins happens because of the connections between Showtime and Golden Boy promotions. 2-They wanted the fight with Dirrell to make sure that Americans fighters would be on the front scene. In the end, Showtime did a pissing contest with Interbox and lost
Did th super six pull in the viewers over there? If not maybe they are cutting their losses. Strange though.
