As an American Showtime subscriber with a sales and marketing background, I can't think of a single valid reason. I would watch the fight, so would my friends. Showtime has already put in time and money building the two fighters into brands and should maximze their investment.
:deal this scott christ of badlefthook breaks it down better then i could so i will just post his thoughts http://www.badlefthook.com/2012/3/1...ngham-fight-negotiations-boxing-news#comments honestly who the **** wanted to see dirrell over froch
From what information I gathered It could be one of this reasons: They tried to get push Hopkins down's Bute through as Bernard didn't really fancy Dawson mostly because he thinks it won't sell. Heard that the men who replaced Ken Hershman was Golden Boy Promotions Lawyer at some point. The problem was that Bute really wanted 1 of the finalists and would have never gone to 175 after waiting more than 2 years to get a shot at the best from the SuperSix. Also Hopkins would had never gone down to 170, heard him saying that it would be outrageous for Bute to ask him that. Other option is that they tried to feed Bute to Andre Dirrell in hope that the American will beat Bute and they will have two future US stars at 168.This was working both ways was a win win for Showtime because if Bute won he would have been watched by most US fan,s get known a little more and the hype and anticipation for Ward Vs. Bute would have been bigger. The third one is that Showtime who invested alot in the SuperSix(Ward) and the 3 fights deal with Bute just wanted really bad Bute's last fight to be against Ward so they won't lose this great fight to HBO. So they were forcing Bute's hand to sing a contract for more fights because they could not get Ward to fight the Canadian right away, and this fight was slipping trough their hands. But this means they put all the heat on Bute and non on Ward.
Time zone is out of the question since Bute-Froch two fights deal First one being in Canada was agreed upon until they refused the fights. They could just refused Froch-Bute II in England.
...and couldn't sign Bute for an extension as HBO already had approached him with a proposition (re: early Jan), telling Interbox "do what ya gotta do" to satisfy Ward's 'demands' and your last fight with us will be a big unification fight. After that, Ward & Bute can go their way on HBO or otherwise, at SMW or otherwise (LHW).
Because neither one is American. Showtime wants to have at least one American fighter on their broadcast.
Simple - POLITIC's. Bute has 1 fight left on contract with Showtime. BUT Showtimes fighter at 168 is Ward and Wards people don't want Bute. So Showtime does not want to big up Bute in anyway as to protect their preferred fighter. - IE black American whom they can reap more money from. - SO you don't misunderstand. black American to them = more viewers than white Canadian. A country without Showtime.
That would suck for Showtime. They invest the energy and money into the 168 weight class just to see the biggest clash among its contestants happen on their rival network.
