Why is boxing compared to a street fight? Gloves take away a lot of the pain that bare knuckle punches cause. Boxing is about skill and the power punches aren`t about pain unless thrown to body or the heart, they are about speed and timing, I don`t know why people that compare MMA to boxing don`t get this.
Because they are jealous. It take more skill to become a world class boxer, and the top boxers earn more than the top MMA fighters.
On the contrary I've also seen boxing fans who constantly **** on MMA and refuse to give it - it's due. Childish getting caught up in the whole 'Boxing vs. MMA' mentality. It doesn't have to be that way... I for one enjoy both, so do many other fight fans. Nothing wrong with being a purist but there's no need to spew drivel about something that you know next to nothing about.
I think it's just a reaction to boxing fans who trash on MMA. MMA in all honesty is the bread and butter because it just IS best for street fights and is about being great at meshing different styles. I enjoy both. There's a lot of skill in both.
I always hear MMA compared to a street fight. Neither are like a street fight, there are rules. In the street there aren't. Although both do have there similarities to an actual fight. In most fights guys are just throwing hands at the face. A lot of the time it goes to the ground but its not like they know what they are doing on the ground or stand up for that matter. Both are excellent methods of defending yourself. I've been watching a lot more mma lately. It has its pros and cons. Overall, I'd say its a great sport. Boxing is just more scientific which I like.
Boxing gets trashed because of all the bull**** politics and fake champions compared to mma. Personally i just cant get on with MMA when they start grappling, probably because i dont understand it but i dint really want and i gave given it a go multiple times
That isn't true. MMA fans are much more respectful than boxing fans, you can go to MMA forums and they are always posting boxing techniques and Gifs. You name MMA here and everyone laughs at how bad they are at punching. Of course that if you go to YouTube comments you will find awful mma fans, but YouTube is the home of the biggest scumbags on the internet.
It comes down to preference really. I can appreciate both. But boxing is a master sport. For me, I prefer the art of mastering a single martial art over being mediocre to good or decent in multiple arts. I understand MMA requires a lot of discipline and dedication like boxing does, but MMAers arent really mastering a single art. With MMA we get to watch fighters put all their average skills in multiple arts together. With boxing we get to watch fighters display a masterful art that in most cases has taken them all of their lives to master.
I think the whole rivalry is stupid. A lot of MMA fans may bash boxing but a lot of others respect it, and see how hard it is. I think people who have attempted to train in both are the ones who respect each side the most, they know how hard it is. The upcoming fight may be billed as Boxing vs. UFC, but that's not accurate considering the rules are just within boxing. Same thing with couture-Toney in UFC. It's basically "common sense vs. delusional" or "expert vs. novice". McGregor last boxed competitively over ten years ago LOL The only thing that could come of it is that maybe a lot of dumb MMA fans will see the skill level that boxing requires and respect it, and possibly want to learn it. The smarter MMA fans already know that boxing is extremely difficult and that MMA fighters use it in their styles.
