Why didn't people like Holyfield and Tyson get proper retirements? In Tyson's last fight he threw in the towel and people threw trash at him. Also in MMA and Pro Wrestling you see guys get proper retirements. I'm dead ass with this post. Plus I don't know how retirements work in Boxing. watch?v=2U8XZYXMlQo watch?v=O5Ikv9r1eYc watch?v=E8AiqM-kQxI Mike Tyson retirement: /watch?v=yG1YJpSoDmA
A lot of these boxers didn't announce that they'd be retiring after a particular fight though. There'd be speculation, or maybe it would only be considered well after a fight, like in Barkers case. Sometimes, douches like Kellerman ask the boxers directly. But I can't recall a boxer saying 'this is my last fight, I'm retiring after this'. Did Tyson announce his retirement before his last fight??
...aren't there a union for boxers much like in the NBA where the have players union, i think they ought to have one where they can pay their dues so that when they retire they still have money or more like a pension
because boxing isnt an organized sport run by a universal commission? tyson and holyfield mad over 150 million each in their careers, probably more.... why didnt they make sure to look out after themselves?
no there isnt.... but yes, something should be in place..... boxing has always been broken, and boxers get taken advantage of while their fighting, so they really get sh.it on after they are finished
Often guys in Japan have a retirement fight as a public spar, one coming up for Yoshinori Nishizawa in a week or two.
Because most fighters don't choose when they retire. It's not a planned thing. They just all of a sudden say to themselves 'this is it, I don't wanna fight no more' with their last fight occurring 6 months prior to that decision.

They don't usually get a great send off as a lot of times the people who tend to be at a lot of those later fights when a fighter is on a steep decline (or in some cases shot) are there because of the reputation that was built during the fighters prime - they expect those prime performances from a guy who is way past that and are disappointed as a result. Plus many 'retirements' are temporary in this sport and people are sceptical about that stuff.
