Those little thin gloves like Rocky Marciano would wear to hit the heavy bag. Why'd boxers stop using them? Seems like they stopped being used in the 80s. This content is protected
You can still get them. It might be because of the detachable thumb, which was disallowed in boxing rules now for fear of thumbing. It might also be to stop hand injuries. Boxers in Marciano's time and before used to focus on toughening the hands. I know Dempsey used to recommend people wear workman's gloves on the bag to do this.
Bag gloves are not good for accuracy and little wrist support. You also want to mimic what your going to do in ring, wearing bigger gloves will be beneficial when using smaller ones in ring. There really not designed that great , they cause more damage to hands , there's other ways to condition hands .Bag gloves have a weird overlay over the knuckels causing wrist bending. . MMA training gloves are far better. Bag gloves are more gimmicky.
I prefer Joe Joyce's method of toughening your hands, steep them in petrol for 2 hours a day and they will be like rock in no time.....
I still have mine. Loved them when they were the only choice back in the 80's Last time I had them on it felt weird to be honest. I've had tons of different brand bag gloves since then including some Thai gloves. TBH none compared to the Rivals
