The fighters anyone is interested in seeing don't need the money (whilst people are interested in seeing them).

Never mind the damned exhibitions...restore the old 15 round title fight limit...then we'll talk about exhibitions....ahhh, I'm sorry to vent like that, and I don't mean to pee on the thread topic either..it wouldn't hurt for the champions today to give boxing a "little" shot in the arm by promoting familiarity with the "sporting" public..it wouldn't hurt.

We are not going to get exibitions when our champions have 1/2 fights a year.

Vent all you want, RC. You know you have plenty of support here. I get tired of ranting about it, so if you have the energy to pick up the ball and run with it, please, fire away. Maybe you'll fire back up the rest of us traditionalists to resume the call. (Meanwhile, if you're not too demoralized over it to get your dander up, don't waste it. Let it all out!)

I can't "hep it" I guess...it's the biggest example of the adulteration and *******ization of the sport of boxing that I can think of, other than the proliferation of titles and weight divisions...hell I'll forget about all that..I can live with a light super minimumweight division (sarc)..but this 12 round title limit has stuck in my craw from day 1 Duodenum!!! I'd love to start a groundswell of discontent with the situation and I'll just keep ranting on I guess!!:bbb

Logically you'd think more fighters would be doing exhibitions, especially since they generally fight less often. A 4-6 round tune up that doesn't go on the record would make sense.

You're not alone. 15 rounds is fair. There's too much back and forth drama in a title bout.

Back in the "golden 70's" it was a dramatic thing more times than not for the fight for the world title to go to those legendary championship rounds 13, 14 and 15. What give and take and back and forth, as you say.

Because back then, the only way to see a fighter was live or at the movies until TV came around. Thus a famous fighter could stage an event and draw well.

I think the last "big" exhibition was Tyson vs. Corey Sanders, right? And didn't Alex Povetkin have a "real" but unsanctioned fight with Bruce Seldon recently? That sounds like an exhibition.

And YES, restore 15 round championship fights!!!

Because no one cares about boxing anymore. It's a fringe sport these days, as opposed to Louis' time when it was the second-most popular sport in the country next to baseball. Being a "champion" means nothing anymore, and public interest in the notion follows suit. Hell, even Tyson can't draw a crown in Vegas with his idea of garnering a few bucks sparring in the various casinos there.

Boxing just doesn't mean anything now.
