Why don't fighters just throw the over hand right against the shoulder roll?

Floyd Mayweather has been ducking ESB members for years and cherry picking nobodies like Robert Guerrero.

Wait Pac cant throw a right hand? I thought he was a top 10 ATG? I thought Roach tought him how to use his right hand for the past 8 years?

He is great, hes only in the AM's and he already knows how to penetrate the shoulder roll. I say **** Canelo and this guy should fight Floyd in September......:deal

 

Actually that clip is an example of an overhand right. Not the fullest arc but nonetheless is an overhand right.... I think you may need to get out of the gym before you get laid out cold one day by someone who is not going to take it easy with you.

 

Simple science says that the best way to defeat a shoulder is to double and triple the left jab and hook off of it. Shoulder rollers live off of people throwing right hands from a conventional stance at them.

The trouble with Floyd is that he is as adept at blocking punches as he is slipping (see JMM fight). I'm not sure I've ever seen him take more than a punch or two at a time.

awww cut him some slack, he's only in the AM's. He doesnt know the difference between a hook and an overhand right as of yet. But at least he knows how to encroach the shoulder roll defense.:yep

#2 Sam Peter fought Toney twice and didnt hurt him,rock him or stop him

#3 Sam Peter didnt win because of an overhand right. He used a tripple jab and crash course in combo punching

Sounds more like he is in the premature rather than Amatuers.

 

Ive been trained to use the shoulder rolls for years (am an amateur currently as well, my trainers from the oldschool) and I can assure you that it is easy to block overhand rights. You have to understand most fighters do not use it correctly, its a lost art. They just watch Mayweather on youtube and try to imitate without completely understanding the different concepts. If you come winging overhand rights your getting countered and pot shotted on the chin. From experience, the jab is the best counter to the shoulder roll.

BTW it doesn't work as effectively in the amateurs, due to the bulkiness of the headgear. It's designed to work without headgear. Its a pro defense not amateur.

ALso FLoyd didnt get caught with an overhand right, Mosley opened him up by jabbing to the body. Naseem noticed this from the Marquez-Mayweather tape.
