Why don't fighters take a knee more often?

It may have to do with not wanting to concede to a battle. Different than getting KD were they have no choice.

Ok so no man wants to kneel infront of another man. I get that, so how about changing the move to just deliberately touching your glove on the canvas, would still count as a knockdown, right? Would remove some of the shame.

You aren't even kneeling in front of another man, really. That is such a dumb way of looking at it.

The gesture is for the benefit of the referee more than your opponent, to know you are sacrificing a two-point swing (taking a "down") in order to recover, so he can do his job and send the opponent to a neutral corner and give you a count.

Pride plus considering judging you can't just guess you can afford the 10-8

I fully agree its a stupid way of looking at it but what im saying is you (possibly ?) dont have to do it that way if for whatever reason youre not comfortable with taking a knee. Im all for having fights conclude correctly and making sure a tko is really a tko. Anything else is a disservice to the fans, and the boxers.

Yeah but they take a knee to get out of trouble. This is getting rid of the other guys chance of getting the stoppage. So the fighter is basically saying "time out I need a break, the other guy has me here". So if a knee wasn't taken he would possibly be KO'd. So I personally think taking a knee should not be allowed. This is professional boxing were u try and ko your opponent. Ya shouldn't be able to get a break. If u can't last the 3 minutes of the round then the fight should be over. A knee should only be allowed in the amatures. That's my opinion anyway.

Simply put, taking a knee is not a natural instinct-especially when you are hurt.

So you must be against tying up? Laying on the ropes in a shell? Moving about the ring? Anything that denies the opponent the chance to KO you when you're in trouble?

A knee is exactly the same as suffering a knockdown, except voluntary instead of involuntary. The penalty is the same - a 10-8 swing in your opponent's favor on the cards, whether you won most of the rest of the round or not.

Fair trade-off. You get a break, it'll cost you two points...same as would getting knocked down.

A knee touch is a knockdown, for all intents & purposes.
