Imagine.. you have been training 10 weeks night and day, you have just gone to war and risked your life, it's a climactic moment for you and you just want to thank a few people and HBO shut you down. I don't know about you but i would be pissed if i didn't get a minute to talk and say whatever i want.

    What do others think?

  2. They do it because of time constraints. Usually the fight just ended and they only have a few seconds to squeeze the interview in. It just sucks that they feel like their questions are more important than the fighter thanking his people for a hard deserved victory.

HBO pays you to fight... not to thanks the people around you.

I'm not bashing Jim, Larry, Max etc. But you can clearly see that HBO has given instructions to cut the interviews very short. Time isn't THAT MUCH of a constraint that you cant extend the interview by a minute or two

It works both ways. The fighters generate money for HBO. You think HBO put on a boxing card out of the goodness of their hearts??? ***** please

Because their interviewers are the very worst in boxing. They think we would rather hear the assessments of a bunch of biased, senile, and cowardly commentators rather than what the fighters have to say. HBO is only worth watching if you mute the sound.

I think they do it because they know many of the fighters aren't going to be thanking their fans, they will be sending shout outs to t shirt companies or other people that will throw them money if they get their names mentioned. In Chad Dawson's case he would be thanking condomdepot.com.

It is pretty disprespectuful to the fighter, he puts in all the work, he should at least get to speak his mind after the fight

It is rude, but I can understand why they do it.

There have been plenty of cases in the past with controversial results where they wanted to get a fighter's opinion on the controversy and all the fighter did was waste the airtime allotted to them by thanking their agent, their agent's parents, the chick at the health-food store, god, god's cousin, god's favorite beer etc. If the fighters hadn't learned to duck uncomfortable questions by wasting answer time like politicians, the media wouldn't have had to start grilling them like politicians.

The solution would be to allow more discussion time and then they could do both, but then I suspect that contractually it's the promoter and the agents / fighters themselves that set the time limit.

I'm guessing it's because there are post fight press conferences, website blogs and so on where fighters have plenty of opportunities to thank their friends, family and fans. HBO have a very limited amount of time to get the interview in, so they'd rather talk about the fight itself, instead of us having to listen to the same old 'Thanks to my family, thanks to my fans' for the 1000th time.
