Why don't HBO show past fights like Showtime does regularly?

I would think that they can put aside one hour a week to show any of their past fights at a set time. Let that be 4 AM in the morning. Is there some contractual thing going on? I just don't get it. And it might get other non boxing fans involved if they happen to catch it. It's like HBO is so secretive with their fights. If you don't catch it live or the next week, you never see it again. What gives?

Because HBO is what is wrong with boxing.

They outbid every other bidder and then hold onto rights as though it's digital gold. They deprive the average Joe from the sport of boxing by giving them an ultimatum: buy our shitty shows and reruns or you won't see the big fights. It is complete horse**** and it should be outlawed.

The day the high rollers at HBO and Showtime are ousted from bidding rights is the day boxing returns to the big time. Not until then.

Yeah but just showing fights to hype up the PPVs stinks while you got Showtime who airs a fight every weekday although they have fallen in love with the Forrest,Tarver,Nonito Donaire triple header card. They also have a deal with ESPN Classic and show there old fights on there I just watched a 2001 Joel Casamayor fight I never seen tonight. You dont now how much id love just chillin at home on a Tuesday and flipping threw the channels and see Gatti-Ward 1 on HBO 2 just because they felt like airing it.

:good Imagine if they would start with their entire catalog of fight's..
    70's/80's/90's/00's ect....an HBO classic is a must.
    (I'd be sold)

It's just ridiculous. I mean why they can't show past fights, i don't get it. Everyone in here would LOVE that. Just one hour a week. Show a past fight. You don't even need a review or narration. Just replay the fights like Showtime does in beautiful HD.

How does HBO Demand work? Do you pay per show or is it a monthly thing? How much does it cost?

    WINNER! WINNER!

When Showtime gets a fight they show any sort of previous footage of said fighter whenever they get the chance..and then use their sho-box next generation show to further hype the fight, not to mention showing previews all throughout the week leading up to the fight.

HBO mentions it, forgets about it..then wonders where they went wrong when ratings are **** poor (by their standards)

Dude are you nuts??? I have the HBO package and there is a fight on everyday...Just a few hours ago I watched Briggs vs Lyakhovich. Yeasterday it was Forrest vs Piccirillo and Tarver vs someone not very good. HBO shows more boxing then anyone except ESPN classic. And not only the big fights even some of the BAD cards.
