Well?? Instead of fighting people with losing records, holding their top 10 position and waiting for their turn to fight a Klitschko they could fight each other! Then when they do win the Klitschko lottery they might actually have some experience fighting at a high level and won;t be completely overwhelmed. I was actually quite excited for Arreola vs Adamek but since then I cant think of a heavy fight not involving a Klitschko that I have been excited about. Povetkin Chagaev is a start but these fights should have already happened. :thumbsup
Sowsnoski vs Dimitrenko, Peter vs Helenius, Dimitrenko vs Sprott, Chambers vs Thompson, Helenius vs Lyakhovich, Arreola vs Adamek, Povetkin vs Chagaev, Haye vs Wlad, Vitali vs Solis, Vitali vs Adamek, Fury vs Chisora have all happened this year or are about to happen, I don't know what more you want.
Like I said in another thread , its all about keeping that undefeated 0 on the record and maintaining a high Ko percentage - fighters wont risk a loss against a top 10 guy not when they can see a mega millions payday with one of the brothers on the horizon . It sucks and is one of the reason why the heavyweight scene is going through its worst era since the pre Joe Louis 1930's . even the pre tyson early 80's was far more competitive than the shower of shite we have now ( apart from the Klitschko's that is )
hell the only reason pov and chag are fighting is because its for a title...dont kid yourself....other wise they would be fighting marcus mgee with 23 losses or zack page, who has almost 40....alot of brave heavyweights these days
Sosnowski? Peter? Lyakhovich? Sprott? Who cares?? I want top 10 heavys to fight each other! Boystov vs chambers for instance..
Dimitrenko vs Sprott? we are supposed to be thankful for this? Arreola vs Adamek was almost a year and half ago Helenius vs Lyakhovich is a good fight was so special about lyco? he has 3 fights in 4 years....whoopie.... Povetkin vs Chagaev - only happening because its for the WBA not good enough title vitali vs solis is for the title, we have to be excited that 2 guys are fighting for the title? same with haye and wlad... the thread starter is right, so may heayweights that are showcased on tv all the time fight garbage after garbage......and when you get a fight like "dimentrenko vs sprott" you think its ali vs frazier....:rofl
Peter and Lyakhovich are ex World champs, one being 34 and the other 30 I don't really see why you don't care about them anymore. No doubt if two midgets at one of the dwarf weight classes who were that age and were ex World champs were fighting each other you would be wanking yourself of senseless with anticipation. Why would Chambers fight Boystov? He is due to fight top 10 ranked Tony Thompson for the IBF mandatory shot at Wlad. Honestly, some people you just can't please.
Becasue Im not bothered about IBF WBA etc rankings. The WBA had Ruiz as Hayes mandatory and he had won 3 from 6? I want ring magazine top 10 heavys to fight each other. I am surprised this has been met with resistance. I thought every fan would want to see the best fight the best. Boystove for instance is going to look good knocking out top 50 fighters for a couple of years then when he gets his shot he will be overwhelmed and disppear. Look at Kevin Johnson etc
Fair enough I take that back, that was foolish of me in hindsight. Lyakhovich is an ex World champ that always gives us a good battle and he stands a decent chance of winning here in this good match up, it's a great matchup. Yet it is happening, stop moaning. Erm, well yes we should get excited when 2 top 5 fighters fight each other, Jesus wept.
I have both Thompson and Chambers in the top ten, I have no problem with that match. They're the number 1 and 2 HW's in the USA.
It seems to be a money thing, mainly. There are only a few heavyweights with the fan base to generate big bucks. At present these are Klitschkos, Haye. To a lesser extent Adamek, Arreola, Mormeck. And perhaps Povetkin and Valuev if they can tap that Ruskie market. Everybody else out there is trying to get a fight with these guys. Bottom line is nobody seems to be putting up a purse for a fight like Chambers v. Thompson to go down. The fight will happen because the winner gets a 1.5+ million $ payday against a Klitschko. Same thing with Povetkin-Chagaev, though the winner of that fight may try to milk the paper title a bit first. Guys like Arreola and Solis have no incentive to fight each other if it jeopardizes the fight with the champ down the road. And the Klits have no incentive to pressure the sanctioning bodies to produce qualified challengers because their interest is making money, not fighting Wlad-Chambers II and III. From a sporting perspective it would be better if there were 'teams' of fighters who were obligated to fight each other. As it stands now, while it would be good from a sporting perspective to see Sauerland and Universum and Goosen pit their heavies against each other....there's no financial incentive to it unless it leads to a fight with a Klitschko.
Sosnowski is not a contender he's not even ranked in the top 15 by any of the 4 major sanctioning bodies, his one claim to fame is beating a shot to **** Danny Williams who was never anything other than a decent domestic level British heavyweight. So we can discount Sosnowski vs Dimitrenko as 2 contenders fighting. Helenius is a contender but Peter isn't, he is currently not ranked in the top 15 of any sanctioning body and has not looked like a contender since back to back loses to Vitali and Chambers. So Peter vs Helenius does not qualify as 2 contenders fighting. Sprott has never been a contender for any world title, he has always been a domestic level fighter who has never even had success of a european level, let alone world level so once again Dimitrenko vs Sprott does not qualify. Chambers vs Thompson would definately qualify as to contenders meeting but to my knowledge that fight has not even been confirmed as of yet. Liahkovich doesn't even fight once a year, is not ranked in the top 15 by any sanctioning body and is shot, so cleary Helenius vs Liahkovich does not qualify. Arreola vs Adamek I would say are 2 contenders, though Arreola is a hype job and in reality there are plenty of heavyweights who could beat him, but yes this qualifies. Povetkin vs Chagaev are both contenders but once again this fight is yet to happen though most likely will, so yes this qualifies. Haye vs Wlad, Vitali vs Adamek and Vitali Solis are title shots not 2 contenders meeting so don't qualify. Fury vs Chisora? You got to be kidding, we are talking about world title contenders not British domestic level fights. So yeah 2 matches where contenders have fought in how many years? Top 15 fighters no longer fight each other. We had so many in the last era, Byrd/Tua, Byrd/Ibeabuchi, Ibeabuchi/Byrd, Byrd/Vitali, Golota/Grant, Rahman/Tua, Golota/Bowe and Golota/Tyson, the list goes on and on.
Evander Holyfield is a former champion and still active does he qualify as a contender? Of course not, these kind of fights are just contenders beating up on past champions who are no longer genuine contenders.
