been saying this for years...its the real reason the heavyweight division isnt as exciting as the lower weights
the fans and the broadcasters just have very little interest on those fights. so the fighters would make very little money. a possible loss means no Klit payday, a win doesn´t necessarily higher the payday etc.. with those who already got beat by a Klitschko its different but even fewer ppl want to see them fight eachother...
Last year i'd agree but this year they are: Vitali v adamek Pov v chag Chambers v thompson Helenius v liakhovic All we need is one of dmitrenko, boystov and arreola to fight each other and pretty much every top ten contender is in a meaningful fight
I agree, this year there are some really good fights between the top guys in the division! Wlad (1) v Haye (3) Vitali (2) v Adamek (4) Povetkin (5) v Chagaev (6) Chambers (7) v Thompson
Klits are not actually contenders.. they pretty much fight the best possible opponents year after year..
Heavyweights are more like business men nowadays, fight the a string of bums. Then cash in with the Klitschko's for a easy payday. The times of the warrior like mentality is gone....
All this talk of cashing in and not trying against the Klits is bull****. Guy gets 1 million to fight a Klit. Guy beats a Klit and he can pretty much guarantee he'll get 10 million plus for his next fight no matter how he performs. Set himself up for life. What more incentive would a Business man need?
Exactly. It's hard to get excited about a prospect when all he fights are bums and journeymen. The perception of the heavyweight division is that it sucks, but that is due to the fact we cannot judge how good any of these contenders really are because all we see from them is beating unknowns to getting their arses handed to them by the Klitschko's.
There would be more interest if they actually fought each other though. Nobody is going to watch a prospect beat up some guy who's already lost 5 times. We want young contenders to face off against each other and see how they do and by doing this and winning they will gain a following and more money. Calzaghe was a non draw before he fought Lacy on national television. But he took a pay cut in that fight, and every fight after that was PPV and earned him big money. You have to take risks and sometimes a bad payday to earn bigger bucks further down the line.
The current Ring top 10's fights against one another: Champ W. Klitschko (3-0): def. #4 Haye, def. #5 Chagaev, def. #6 Chambers 1. V. Klitschko (1-0): def. #10 Arreola, vs. #2 Adamek later this year 2. Adamek (1-0): def. #10 Arreola, vs. #1 V. Klitschko later this year 3. Povetkin (1-0): def. #6 Chambers, vs. #5 Chagaev next month 4. Haye (0-1): lost Champ W. Klitschko 5. Chagaev (0-1): lost Champ W. Klitschko, vs. #3 Povetkin next month 6. Chambers (1-2): lost #3 Povetkin, def. #7 Dimitrenko, lost Champ W. Klitschko 7. Dimitrenko (0-1): lost #6 Chambers 8. Boytsov (0-0) 9. Helenius (0-0) 10. Arreola (0-2): lost #1 V. Klitschko, lost #2 Adamek Helenius can be forgiven as he's new (and just beat Sam Peter). 7 total fights between these 11 men. All Klitschko fights were title fights. Chagaev-Povetkin is a title fight. Povetkin-Chambers was an IBF eliminator. Removing those out of the equations your only fights that weren't for a title or an eliminator (in other words, voluntary) were Adamek-Arreola and Chambers-Dimitrenko.
Because there is no real point to boxing when you know the Klitshcko's are just going to destroy you anyway.
if you beat a klit you have to face him again for the same money you got in the first fight. if you beat him again you have to face his brother for the same money you got in the first fight. you're beating off losing to the klit the first time out & chasing a fight with david haye.
Cubans Perez and Ortiz. Brits Chisora,Fury, Towers and Price others: Povetkin,Boytsov,Pulev Helenius Think Chambers,Arreola and Johnson deserve new chance. Would be very interesting to see these guys fight each other like Chisora-Fury. Like this weekends Lara -Wiliams it doesnt have to be a belt on the line to get attention.
