Why don't more corners throw the towel in?

Just rewatched Joshua vs Breazeale again, he took a pounding and got Knocked down twice, why didn't his corner save him for example? I think there's not that many compassionate or brave corners out there!

Baby Joe vs Jirov was another that should have had the towel thrown in.

It depends. Some corners have towels and some don't. Just ask Chris Eubank Sr. He doesn't need one for his son.

Depends on the understanding between fighter and corner

Brook's corner knew he was about to get leveled so they stopped it...Brook respects and honours his corners decision.

Some cornermen have never had a situation where they need to throw in the towel during sparring/training...so the consquence of getting KTFO is just part of the process of bieng a boxer & they let it happen.

It takes a good corner to know there are no special prizes to allow your fighter to get KO'd by Gennady Golovkin.

Agreed. You're not supposed to quit or show cowardice. It's a fight. That's what people paid to see. If you are getting beat up, you are supposed to either reach inside yourself and overcome the pain, or go down to the canvas admitting defeat. I hate when good fights get stopped and neither fighter is seriously hurt with both men still on their feet.

This sport isn't like Basketball, or football, or soccer. The whole point is that you are supposed to get injured and inflict injuries on other people. There's no flopping around on the ground pretending you're hurt or quitting because you got a sniffle. If you can't handle that fact then this isn't the sport for you. Go take up crossfit or jogging or golf if that isn't too extreme for your delicate sensibilities.

The towel is there to wipe your blood off. It's not a security blanket.

With a broken orbital against a big puncher? There's an old saying live to fight another day

Better to err on the side of caution at times rather than risk life or health.

Why don't we make it illegal to even make a fist to hit somebody? We could make a rule so it's open hand slaps only. We'll armor people up head to toe with helmets, pads, and sunscreen so no one gets hurt and make everything point fighting. It will be just like a pillow fight broke out during a game of tag.

Many corners aren't experienced enough to make such a decision or they don't understand the actual risks of being repeatably punched in the head over and over. Roman Simakov's corner had plenty of time to throw in the towel but they outright refused. Look what happened.

Strawman argument. I don't know why you feel the need to escalate the debate to a nonsensical place that isn't

I really just don't want to see people die or get seriously hurt in the ring on a more consistent basis. People already get hurt fairly often.

Magarito- Pac and Lebedev-G.Jones are examples where the towel should definitely of been thrown in. Maybe some corners don't care as much about their fighters as others. Kel is having surgery on his eye socket which is badly damaged. His trainer Dominic Ingle is apparently like a father figure to him some corners don't have that closeness.

He is having surgery on a badly broken eye socket. You wan't him to go blind for the entertainment of others?

Its up the boxer and the corner concerned

Some fighters can absorb lots of punishment and still come back and win.

Talking about Breazeale, he was getting wailed on by Monsour and the referee almost stopped it, then Monsour quit.
