Why dont they fight for Commenweath tites in Canada and Australia?

There are a few Australian bouts spread out in the list. The last Canadian bout was Troy Ross a few years back.

It is mainly an alternative British title with some Africans thrown in

 

They do but rarely because most time they can fight lesser opponents for intercontinental titles etc. Instead of risking there fighters having to come to these shores and get beat.

Richard Williams beat a Canadian lad for Commonwealth years back, Molitor beat Nicky Booth as well for Commonwealth..

 

The dude fighting Fury is Canadian.

 

Dominic Vea and Oscar Siale had one of the best Commonwealth title fights in recent memory last year. The fight was in Australia.

 

Is travel a factor? Unless you have 2 Aussies or a Kiwi and an Aussie contesting its a long way to go, or to bring an opponent, for a title like the Commonweath title fight.

 

You lot think maybe we'll see the end of the Commonwealth title? in near future. When i was younger it was a respected title but nowadays it seems like it's trade joke. It only contain's significance if it's a fighters first title or if it's part of British title fight.

Obviously still be about but get impression we'll see less and less of it. It's really taken on a novice title feel of late..

 

I wouldn't really miss the Commonwealth belt, doesn't bring a massive amount to the table in it's current role.

Money mate , British promotes won't pay Aussies a decent purse, apparently they get Africans to fight cheaper (sad on a few levels but true ) The Commonwealth title is of great historical value with some of our best ever having fought for it as it used to be the step between British and European levels if you won a Commonwealth title back in the day you were half way to a World title shot , BTW Mandanda was also correct in saying the Aussies get a higher ranking fightIng lesser guys from Asia for the Pan Pacific titles .

Maybe Katsidis and Burns should also be fighting for the commonwealth title along with the WBO interim.

 

The Commonwealth title is basically the British title B. In general the level of champion and opponent is lower than the British, although you will occasionally get a quality fighter coming from Africa....very rare these days.

If you look back at the best non UK Commonwealth fighters from the past few years how many of them challenged for the Commonwealth belt?

Sam Peter, David Tua, Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute, Glen Johnson, Daniel Geale, Kassim Ouma, Joashua Clottey, Mickael Katsidis.

The commonwealth title would mean a hell of allot of there were less world titles.

 

Yeah, a lot of fighters just tend to go for one of the softer "world" belts rather than the CW these days.
