Why don't they hold many outdoor boxing matches anymore?

They did it in the old days with Dempsey, Jack Johnson, Holmes-Cooney, Hagler-Leonard, Duran-Hearns etc so why don't they do it anymore? I don't know why but its cool to see a boxing match in the outdoors and I'd like to see a big match outdoors instead of the same old MGM MGM MGM every fight

Carson, CA venue is outdoors and frequently hosts quality cards.

Wladimir vs. Haye, unfortunately one of the "bigger" fights of the era, was outdoors with rain and wind.

Indoor arenas offer higher site fees. You also don't want the weather to impact the fight. A rainy day could push back the fight or make it a miserable experience for the fans. If it's too hot, it could affect the fighters.

I'm pretty sure every boxing match that's ever happened in Thailand is outdoors...

    Agreed.

I thought Pac fighting at the Cowboy stadium twice in 2010 would be the start of more big outdoor fights but unfortunately the money the casinos pay upfront for the fights is more then other arenas can compete with.

Martinez-Murray was in an outdoor soccer stadium in Buenos Aires. The rain that night was a real problem for Sergio too, along with Murray's defense, jab and right hand.

Boxing in the East end of London UK was often in the backyards of pubs. I fought then and you tolerated the rain for the cleaner atmosphere of indoors with smokers and beer odours making it hard to breath. I have seen a number of outdoor fights in Germany in car parks recently

ODLH versus Forbes was outdoors if I remember correctly. Have no recollection why, it was hardly a big fight.

If I was a boxer, I wouldn't want to fight out doors to be honest. I'd put that in the contract.
