He lost 15% of his fights, lost to Hearns,Ray Leonard 2x,,Hagler,Vinny Pazienza and is a known quitter.. People say oh but he fought everyone,ok so did Zab Judah and guys like that.. This is not a troll thread, but a serious question,I thought we rated fighters on their performances, not based soley on whether they were a good fighter or not.. I know he was a world champion, but if he had lived in todays internet age he would be considered a bum by most.. A champion loses one fight, and you guys say he is garbage, finished etc.,why does he get a pass.. Ortiz is a quitter and shitted on,but this guy was a world champion quitting because he got frustrated cmon?
Most people think that when they start watching boxing. Then they investigate a little more and realize he had a great career before the 80's and how impressive are his victory over Leonard, his great showing against one of the best MW of all time in Hagler, his KO of Moore and how he came out on top of a brawl against a much younger and much bigger Barkley. Also, Duran is in the class of guys like Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Sugar Ray Robinson, Willy Pep, etc. Guys who had great careers and who may have lost a fight here and there, but were so technically perfect that you don't feel ashamed to say they were the best ever at their weight. These are guys you want to show films of, if you're a trainer.
Take a look at his opponents before 1980. Closely evaluated, it is one 'super impressive' record. Don't focus on post-1980, where he was nowhere near the complete and dominating fighter he was in the 1970's. (For the whole decade).
I forgot ANYONE questioning an old timer is a troll thread... atsch Questioning him is like questioning GOD!
I'll take a look but I have to say standards are different in todays fighters then the past... If Zab "for example" was one of the most skilled fighters, but still lost to Cotto,Floyd,Tzsu etc.. he would not be ranked so high..
I was expecting non-replies like this.. If the guy fought today the same people praising him would call him a bum..
Roberto Duran could have easily, * Won the 126 lb. Featherweight Title in late-1970 (at age 19). * Won the 130 lb. Super-Featherweight Title in 1971. * Won a version of the 140 lb. Light-Welterweight Championship from 1973 thru 1978.
look the first srl fight and you now why he s ranked so hight he is one off the best p4p 1. Sugar ray robinson 2.Roberto Duran
What so you'd have him **** all over the ring. Stinky big ****ing log of **** getting smeared all over the canvas. HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY!!?
