Wilder is a good guy. He has a good chin, his power is overrated though. He fights for his daughter, same as USS. Don't understand the hate against him as well. He's always humble in interviews.
Bad managment, not his fault. He is also not an unlikeable character like Jennings or Quillin, he's a good guy and I think his time starts now. Good fights are waiting for us this and next year.
Because boxing fans are pretty much the scum of the earth? We hold on to faded old stars and refuse to embrace young up and comers. Then later we'll wait for the dust to settle and then act like we never hated them to start with. Cotto used to get hate all the time.
It has a lot to do with people investing themselves and their "cred" in their predictions: they see a guy who had little amateur experience taking a slower route to the top and cook up conspiracy theories that it's being done to cover up some deficiency (chin, stamina, whatever) ... and when proven wrong it makes them very angry because they look like rubes. Short version: keyboard warriors.
I like Wilder, I think he gets far too much hate mainly for his association with Haymon. But I try not to hold that against a fighter as long as they at least seem to be willing to take tough fights like Keith and Deontay.
Great reason... surely then any guy that KO's him that isn't named Wlad is then also a "paper champ".
People want to see Wilder knocked out because he's perceived to be a fraud with a phony record built on bums.
He was brought up the proper way. He started late and now he has a piece of the title. His grooming was well managed. People saw his potential against Stiverne. He's now ready to fight the elite.
Haters gonna hate. But, probably because he hasn't fought anyone really good, yet some are talking like he's the next great.
