Why he didnt escape from Cuba like Solis or Gamboa?

Was he a true communist proud to represent his country, with no money no interantional fame?

What would be his chances for a HW belt ?

Brewster,Tua, Briggs, Golota, David Izon, Danell Nicholson, DaVaryll Wiliamson were his victims in amateur boxing

For me Savon as a pro would be a world champ

If he had turned pro in 92 he would definitely have won a belt, possibly more. I think he was proud to represent Cuba and saw pro boxing as "corrupt".

That's what I read too, but I don't know if that was his genuine opinion or not. There's reason to take that with a grain of salt, I'd say.

He shared the opinion that professional boxing was exploitive and corrupt. Also, it's probably not as easy to escape from Cuba as it would seem. I doubt Savon could of get to the docks without being noticed even if he wanted to leave the Island.

his trainer at the time "Alcides Sagara"

not one fighter escaped from the National Team in the 37 years he was the Cuban National Boxing Coach,

ask anybody in cuba about this man and they will "RESPECT" !

the day he stepped down as head coach boxers started defecting.

Also, if Savon had left Cuba he would've had to worry about the safety of the family he left behind FOREVER. He could either be a famous man in Cuba, or selfishly seek riches in the U.S, and then worry about his family being tortured, etc.

Savon and most world class athletes in cuba are a heroes they're worshiped and loved by their people and they live good lives. They are famous loved by their people and their families are taken care of. But we're talking about different times, im not from cuba but i have a lot cubans friends here in germany and nowadays in cuba young kids want a lot more. I guess hip hop and reggeaton changed young kids mind now they want jewlery, cars and money and that's why they defect. I never got to see teofilo stevenson but my father told me he coldve been world champion and maybe even beat Ali. But to me Savon is the teofilo stevenson of my time. I wouldve love to see him against the pros. I think the only guy that he wouldve lost to was tyson in his prime. But savon wouldve beaten holyfield, bowe, golota and lewis. He was a big strong boxer with power and more boxing ability than all of them.

    :hat

    because he was brain washed.

there was a documentary about cuban boxers, the kids from early ages are brain washed into thinking stupid **** such as pro boxing is bad, america will one day return to invade them etc etc.
