why few "non-title" bouts now?

    Used to be the champs would fight contenders in their own division, or higher, in "over the weight" limit non-title bouts and drum up interest in boxing in general.

    Why don't we see that any more?

    Guys dont fight anywhere near as much as they used to so they have no interest in these kind of fights. They want big money from every fight they have nowadays.

    Plus there's about a million titles in every division, so every Tom, Dick and Harry has a belt.

    A loss didnt mean much back then...now it ruins careers, fans and networks drop fighters in an instant if they lose.
