Fighting a slick, bigger and southpaw young champ was def a bad idea.
I saw it from the beginning and didn't take me by surprise the result.
Cotto is a very small jr mw, his chances are against slow dudes like Margo or small fighters like himself . If he wanted a belt he should've pick K9 instead of Trout.Or maybe go straight to Canelo himself.

Couldn't have said it better myself. He was after a belt and thought Trout was the most beatable

it all makes sense but looking at trouts resume i seen the jump in opposition to be a big shock to his system..

I WAS WRONG... SO VERY WRONG!

To be honest, Cotto's tenure at JMW has involved careful matchmaking...until last night.

Exactly what I was saying prior to the fight. Whoever thought of putting him in with Trout straight after Fearless Floyd needs their head examining.

Cotto's in the twilight of his career and doesn't have the legs anymore to go hunting down faster fighters. K9 would have been a good tune up prior to the Canelo fight, a beatable opponent of similar size.

    Bad matchmaking.

Even though the fight was closer than what the judges score cards indicated-I have no doubt that Golden Girl will still attempt to put on Canelo-Cotto in May.

    not going to happen.

canelo has to fight a ranked jmw not coming off a loss as the general public(those that dont really follow the sport) are now sick of canelo and the cherry-picking. i have never known a wbc champion, or any champion for that matter, making a title defense against a guy that lost his previous two consecutive fights at a lower weight class(shane mosely). you can really add cintron to that list as well.

and i have been following boxing for 30+ years.

cotto losing to trout was the worst thing that couldve happened to canelo because cotto(mayweather is moving back down to welterweight) was the only small jmw(blown-up welterweight) left other than bundrage.

all these legit jmw's(molina, lara, james, vanes, angulo, rosado)guys that have been fighting 154 for the majority of thier careers, canelos bullying and intimidation tactics arent going to work. he will be lucky to go 50/50 even with dlh paying off the judges.

these guys are going to be hitting him back...hard.

in fact canelos going to be fighting off his back foot the majority of these fights, something hes never had to do before.

Cotto isn't small. He's just short. There's a reason he hasn't been giving fight night weights at 154.

I'm a big cotto fan. That's what I wanted to happen.
But there is a long story about it. Thanks for tracking my posts anyways.
