I think he's talking about the fact that it's a small sample size, and also I'm not sure if the poll was up on the Forbes website or what site it was on... however, the demograph of the type of site would have a large influence on the results. He's also stating that liking or having an affinity to an athlete may or may not be the most accurate description of 'influential'. The sample size of probably predominantly white dudes in their late 30s to 60s must love Jimmy Johnson and nascar and Tim Tebow.
