Floyd has fought 47 fights, with 24 in Nevada and 23 located elsewhere. But Las Vegas will always be the Mecca of Boxing
The money he brings into those hotels alone is worth him staying there forever. This is the sole reason I believe he would never fight Khan in Wembley.
I'd like to see which city on Earth produces more revenue for a boxing match than Las Vegas. I will wait until then... The biggest star gets the biggest stage. (And the biggest stage can create the biggest star) This is the case in all aspects of entertainment.
Highest grossing event in Madison Square Garden and New York state history: $11,425,494, Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield, March 13, 1999. -------------- That would be good enough for the 14th best gate revenue in the state of Nevada. http://boxing.nv.gov/results/Top_Boxing_Gates/
There's no state income taxes in Nevada. He has a good relationship with The MGM Grand. The arena is 10 minutes from his house. He can generate more money fighting in Vegas than anywhere else. The better question is, why on Earth would he fight anywhere but Vegas?
But, that was in 1999 you have to adjust the inflation and the ticket prices were cheaper then. $11,400,000 in 1999 is equivalent to $15,900,000 now.
When you're the P4P king and biggest draw in the sport, you don't need to travel to someone else's backyard for a fight. This isn't Calslappy hiding out in the UK content to defend some trinket for 90% of his career, going virtually unnoticed by the rest of the world as all the big fights are happening thousands of miles away. Damn near everyone in and around Mayweather's weight class wants a crack at him for the payday and the chance to dethrone the king.
Then you'd also have to adjust all the fights that happened in Nevada pre 2000 for inflation as well, which still leaves MSG way behind.
Amen.. It's like when some people accuse Roy of ducking Mchaewski lol... ROy was always open to facing him as long as it was in the states and rightfully so cuz he the one calling the shots..
