Cotto fought Urkal last year at around the same time. And followed it up with fights against Judah and Mosley. Its still early in the year. Stop your bitching. :yep
I agree. If he beats Gomez, he's pretty much guarenteed to have a unification match in July against the Margo/Cintron winner.
No, more meaningful is bigger to me. Its very simple. I dont rate boxing matches by PPV buys, but by their impact in the sport and the way they shape their divisions in the competitive sense. To do anything else is to help promoters sell you crap fights. Sorry.
still interesting fight...a good boxer against a powerhouse also on the card redemption or rebuke for Cintron... maybe Mosley-Mayorga too! Clottey needs a dance partner! Clottey/Collazo?
Fine, if you're going to make up your own definitions, that's up to you. Traditionally, a bigger fight is one that gains alot of attention, and generates alot of money.
bigreg I do have to point out. Arum didn't want unify right away. He wanted to hype it up. But still Clottey was available.
Thats cause Urkal was his mandatory, id rather see Cotto fight his mandatory Nuzhenko instead of Gomez.
Yeah, unfortunately Clottey is **** out of luck. However, he's already had his shot at the title. Also, it wasn't too long ago that he struggled with some scrub on Versus. Gomez has fought some good comp. He deserves his shot too. Cotto/Gomez will be a more exciting fight than Cotto/Clottey anyway.
I disagree. Lil Floyd is alot more popular than Cotto. Also, he's his own promoter. As a result, he has alot more control over his career than does Cotto. This fight will help build up Cotto's name. Floyd doesn't need Gomez to build up his name. It would be a useless fight for Floyd.
I have to give you credit- even if I disagree with your business first perspective on boxing at least your consistant.
Gomez' heart and mental toughness is what is most impressive about him as a fighter. He is tough and seems to have a good chin. I say if Zab had the mental game of a Gomez or Gomez had the Physical skills of a Zab we would have a special fighter With that said Gomez Physical skills are ordinary, he is not very fast or quick of foot. His boxing skill is quite ordinary. His game is toughness and rising to the occasion and capitalizing on mistakes. Its not wise to take him lightly he has that undrdog mentality and is out to prove something. Cotto needs to train accordingly and expect a tough customer who will not fold when things get tough. However he is not very fast and tends to tire. Cotto needs to Carefully box and pick him apart dont let this kid get confident and he is through within 10.
