While I believe the first fight was stopped prematurely, I do think Groves was tiring in there. I don't know how the fight would have ended, I think George would have maybe hung on to win on points but nobody can deny that Froch would have fought strongly till the end and Gorves was tiring. The fact is it was a bull**** stoppage and we'll never know for sure how it would have ended.

However, I see the rematche being a clear UD win for George Groves. Why? Because while Groves fought brilliantly in the first fight, he also made some mistakes which effectively cost him the fight in the end. The mistakes he made were simply trying to KO Froch and using up unnecessary energy. He was coming forward at times when he could have went on the back foot a little and picked Froch off at ease. He gt caught up in the moment too much, used up too much energy and that's why he looked a bit tired and sloppy and gave the ref a little excuse to stop the fight.

In a rematch though, George isn't going to make them mistakes. He'll know that while he can hurt Froch, he isn't going to knock him out so he'll pace himself a lot more. A fresh George Groves is simply too quick, too slippery and too clever for a slightly ageing Carl Froch. I think if George fights using his boxing ability, slightly less expansive tactics and paces himself he can make a relatively easy nights work of Carl Froch.

I knew before the last fight that Groves would win plenty of rounds, my worry was that he might not be able to close the show. I think after the experience of the last fight though George will have learnt a lot and he now definitely has the beating of Froch. Thoughts?

Good post....It's not cut and dry though, Groves will win the majority of rounds with boxing ability alone, but i would'nt discount Froch - he's upset by the lack of recognition he got for actually winning the first fight and I can see him saying to himself "this is it" and laying it all out there and coming forward through sheer will. Will be a great fight as there styles mix. I'll go with Froch by late stoppage again, then retiring.

    Or . . . . .

Froch is more cautious this time, doesn't walk into a big right in the first round and then waste the next 5 rounds recovering and walks through everything Groves has and breaks him down earlier in the rematch?

I actually think this is a quite possible scenario. Not a popular one on this board I guess, but possible non the less.

    There's a simpler reason

GG has the greater boxing IQ and can adapt and learn from (not many) mistakes in the first fight

Carl froch is one dimensional and can not change or improve his style at his age. Froch is slow and very easy to hit

    GG by stoppage

Problem is, Froch was able to take almost everything Groves threw at him, even after getting knocked down and stunned. That is what made Groves tire so much: he was under enormous pressure, landing monster shots and his opponent was still standing and coming at him. I know first hand how hard that can be on you when you land every punch and the other guy keeps coming, Froch is incredibly strong mentally and that will play a huge role in the rematch. Although I believe Groves made an honest man out of Froch with that huge right hand.

I would say it's still a 50/50. Groves can try to box more but if he doesn't sit down on his shots that also doesn't give Froch as much to fear on the way in. And one thing ignored is that Froch started the first fight thinking incorrectly that he could box with Groves. He's not likely to even bother attempting that in a rematch, and though it was a terrible stoppage, Froch was getting to Groves more consistently as the fight continued and I think he would have legitimately stopped Groves if the fight had continued in the 9th.

I believe this will happen, groves tires too much and Froch will this item get a legit stoppage win mid to late rounds.

That was Groves's chance after he floored him but he couldn't finish the job.

either scenario is plausible. after the 1st fight though, god alone knows where roughd gets gg stoppage from.

froch to me, seemed overconfident and simply put, not himself in the first fight. also,b the fight not only was groves gassing, but he was being hurt by froch's shots as well. I think people are quick to label froch an old fighter because of his performance against groves, but in all honestly, groves looked like a dynamo, and froch looked not to be himself. I believe froch will win a tough fight in the rematch, in an uncontroversial way.
