Why Hagler Could Take a Punch

That in itself was a contest, outwith the other skills they both brought to the table. One of the best right hands in the history of the sport, against one of the greatest chins. Hagler's chin won without too much trouble. He never even looked wobbled.

 

Depends on how one defines "wobbled".

I think one of the first right hands that Hearns landed made Hagler waver, and his legs buckle slightly. He clearly seemed a bit buzzed for a moment, but the fact that he fired back with such intensity only serves to indicate that his recuperative powers (also an important part of the term "chin") were just as impressive as his abilty to take a punch.

 

I think Cyclone Hart tested Hagler's chin more than Hearns. One leaping left hook definitely froze Hagler against the ropes and he covered up until the end of the round. It was safety first for him for the rest of the fight.

 

Agreed completely. Further proof as Hart being one of the hardest hitting middles of all time.

Further verifying that, Hagler's flat out said in interviews that Hart hit him the hardest.

Also, in one of the later rounds Hagler did almost nothing but cover up for a round against Hart. I don't know if he was clearing his head or what, but it was very unlike Hagler.

 

I've heard Hagler say that Sibson hit him as hard as anyone did.

Feel free to compare the fight with me. Hagler does all of nothing in one of the final rounds, just prior to Hart giving up on his stool.

Mugabi hit Hagler with a superb uppercut. Action replays showed Hagler's eyes roll back into his head like fruit machine. It was either the 5th or 6th round.

 

You can see Hagler mouth "Mother****er" right after the uppercut too.

 

Fourth. I still maintain that the mid-exchange hook he caught in the sixth was harder though, even if it didn't land quite as sweetly.

I remember this where Hart whipped a left to the side of the head and Hagler did nothing the rest of the round.

 

Like that is it, two on one. I'm not ready to back down yet, I'll watch it tomorrow.

Hart did some good body work though, well not body work as such, but he landed well downstairs on a couple of occasions and Hagler didn't like it.

 

I was being serious, not trying to jerk Hart off or anything.

I also remember Hart getting penalized multiple times for hitting at the very end of rounds, split seconds after the bell rang I believe.

Hagler didn't like that either, got him visibly pissed.

Briscoe did some really solid bodywork against Hagler as well. Those Philly middles were brutal to the body.
