A new division of giants came along. Previously giants were unable to dominate until modern advances allowed them to function more effectively.

    It should go:

    Lightheavyweight

    Junior Bridgerweight

    Super Junior Bridgerweight

    Heavyweight

I believe it was cruiser champ Al Ice Cole that said he made more money fighting in non-title heavyweight fights vs him defending his cruiserweight title. So if you are a cruiserweight who is good, why stay there when you can make a bunch more money one weight class up? You also don't have to worry about making weight at heavyweight. Both of these reasons are pretty good indicators why the division blows hot and cold, maybe more so than most.

Perhaps if he had done that like a civilized person, it would have been strangled in its cradle?

I think so far so good, and definitely the kind of fighter that adds depth to the division.

    Indeed.

Just like Larry Holmes gave us the IBF.

In fairness, he fought a dead cruiserweight era. The issue still exists, but it’s not nearly as bad.

It's a division filled with average fighters. Holyfield could have went 100-0 very easily.

This. Cruiserweight has and still is an unnecessary division. There just isn't major demand or need for the division. The fact that in the past and even now light heavyweights and cruiserweights are able to move up to heavyweight and be successful emphasizes how unneeded the cruiserweight division is.

In what world? Who is the last LHW to move up and win a HW title? RJJ, literally decades ago. Even among CWs not a single one has been able to claim The Ring title since Holyfield and LHWs haven't captured a Ring title since Spinks. Only 2 CWs have claimed a HW title in the past 20 years.
