Why has Hopkins made this unwinnable match? Why does he think he can win?

We're gonna have to agree to disagree then. Dorfmeister summed up my thoughts pretty much.

Sues, what's he's sayin? Mitchell should have been given a points verdict againt Ottke but where is the link between Mitchell and Hopkins - Ottke? Why should one say that Ottke beats this version of Hops - just b'cause he never lost to anyone? I'm sure China would want to make himself clear about this one cause I am completely missing the point...

    OK, I'm back already.

I noticed you edited your post and I want to mention the fact that you said Lennox wasn't as beloved as Hatton & Calzaghe. I disagree completely with this. Maybe hatton is the better known fighter these days, but I put that down to the type of personality he has. Lennox is and always will be highly respected over here. He is an absolute legend.

I cannot be bothered to argue about the other points because it doesn't really get anywhere and we've been over them so many times already. What I will say, is I don't think using the Mitchell win is a bad example of how Joe is able to come back off the canvas and KO his opponent if he has to. He did well in that fight and Mitchell was a pretty strong opponent at the time.

Ottke before he retired the first time, would for sure beat the the current version of Hopkins if the fight was in Germany.

Hopkins has no chance to win against Calzaghe. He is old and beyond it by far! A lot of people in here live and argue on the legend of Hopkins and his achievements, and fails to see that in his current form he is just an "ordinary" fighter!

    Easy UD Calzaghe!

He beats Hops for sure but it has to be in Germany - seems to me that there is a sub-statement in there.

If Hops is beyond it by far, then Winky and Tarver are done and JT very close to be done - that is obviously untrue. I don't argue with his achievements cause those are very similar to Calzaghe's - and I thought that was the reason they are fighting each other, because they want to finish their careers with this fight. Otherwise, why did Cal say that Carl Froch doesn't deserve to fight him and has so many times asked for a Hopkins fight?

But I want no war of words, just that you came up with an answer to China's Ottke-Mitchell-Calzaghe-Hops riddle. If it's true that Bernard is such an ordinary fighter nowadays, then Calzaghe should be able to beat him easy...

The fat Winky that fought Hopkins is a B level fighter at most. And getting beaten twice by JT is not that much of an accomplishment (Close fights or not)!

Hopkins had his last great moment as a fighter against Tarver, his career defining fight! That was the fight that made him the legend. He still is a "legend", but his skills has declined and he is no way near the fighter he once was.

    Easy UD Calzaghe!

    He will.

How extremely easily, I guess we'll see.

According to the bookies, Calzaghe is a massive favourite to win this fight and the odds are lengthening on Hopkins:

    http://www.bet365.com/home/default.asp?forum=uk&affiliate=odc10

Hopkins is now priced at 3.25 (decimal odds) - i.e. $3.25 back for every $1 you lay. These odds must be pretty tempting for danny-b!

I agree Calzaghe will win, but it is obvious Hopkins thinks he can win. In Hopkins' head he KNOWS he can win, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a boxer of Hopkins calibre. No succesful boxer ever goes into a fight thinking they will lose.

It surprises me, Dorfmeister, that you hope to find a solution to beating Calzaghe by watching his fights against Eubanks and Mitchell.

Has Calzaghe remained the same fighter? Hasn't he improved?

It might be conforting to compare an early-days Calzaghe with a Hopkins at his best, but these are not the same men who will clash in Las Vegas in April.:good

I'm pretty sure Hopkins genuinely feels he can win.

If only he and the rest hadn't lost all his money on "Lacy KO Calzaghe in rounds 1-6".

I'm quite shocked by those odds. I looked at the PBF vs ODH fight, and ODH is at 2.87, with PBF at 1.40. Then Calzaghe is at 1.33 with Hopkins at 3.25. So Bet365 would be more shocked if Hopkins beat Joe, than if ODH beat PBF? WTF? I'd be suprised if Hopkins won, but it is more likely he would beat Calzaghe than ODH beating PBF. I may put a couple of quid on Hopkins... But of course I would cheer on Calzaghe. :D

Are they in the same group as "Kessler outboxes Calzaghe without dropping a round" and "Manfredo is a fearless warrior now he's trained by Roach"?
