Why has Hopkins made this unwinnable match? Why does he think he can win?

i'll take you up on that gladly. and i do believe calzaghe will look to seize his moment.

doesnøt mean he will, that will largely depend on hopkins' attitude which i don't think will be positive for long.

Before we start talking conspiracy theory lets not forget how Calzaghe has had the luxary of questionable decisions in Wales himself ..Two fights that come to mind are the Byron Mitchell fight and the Peter Manfredo fight ..Either way I hope the ref lets them fight and Hopkins doesn't clinch all night ..

Dont think that any boxing match is unwinable, some are very very unlikely but not unwinable.
1 punch is all it takes.

I think that calzaghe will win by late stoppage/Wide decision.
First half of the fight hopkins cannot live with calzaghes output, and as smart and spoiling as hopkins may be, calzaghe can adapt and find hopkins enough to have a 4-5 round lead by 6-7. Hopkins will either be dispirited or be more adventurous knowing he is well behind. Calzaghe's stamina comes into play in the later rounds and he can stop hopkins by tko if not wide decision.

Looking forward to the fight :D

    aye. i agree.

hopkins just can't be busy enough now against a younger, faster opponent. hopkins has a lot of good traits but at his age now i don't think it's going to help him.

This fight will be ugly, a Bhops type of fight. Hopkins close UD.

Byron Mitchell was a terrible champion. A level below mediocre. Because he previously held a world title means very little. Many average fighters win titles these days.

Mitchell knocking out Hopkins? You on drugs?

Calzaghe is for real, no doubt about it. I remember when Calzaghe had a lot of problems with his hands though, still, he is a great fighter and should be respected.

Dec, I am watching all of Calzaghe's fights simply because one of those fights' styles can fit into the upcoming match in April... I come so far to say that Hops will present the same type of obstacle Omar Sheika presented to Cal - stays in his stool, waiting for an opportunity to counter hard but will move more side to side... Happens that Bernard has a much superior sense of distance and timing than Sheika had... Concerning the Eubank and Mitchell fights, I see a great improvement in maturity and boxing saavy in Joe because he doesn't rush in to close the gap and waist so much energy with some kinda innefective, little two-fisted flurries, but the flip-side of that is that he would need to be highly spirited and have that heart burning against Bernard... I also took this opportunity to check on Joe's punching power issue ( much a theme of debate around here) and I have to say he has a very good combination of speed, pressure and accurate combination punching ( specially with lefts over the top - Eubanks, Mitchell, Veit I and II, Woodhal) but I still don't like how he uses the straight left hand out of southpaw stance... He can be tagged like against Woodhal in the 8th and 9th just before the stoppage, and that happened again against a similar kind of upright european fighter in Kessler - it does not have to do with time or unexperience, Cal has a habit of lunging in with the str8 left and he follows that movement with his head - when it doesn't connect, you know what can happen?... Concerning Joe's opposition, Bernard is a totally different animal even at this age.

I apologise, Dorfmeister.:good I am frustrated triply by the fact that I cannot see it your way, by your superior expertise on the subject and by my impression that you like to pick against the favourite, in general, so I just lash out.:patsch

Good one...Show Calzaghe fighting ok against an unproven Kessler, and compare it to the only kind of bad round Hopkins had in a LHW bought against a guy who recently outboxed and knocked out R.J.J....Great post....

Look at the speed difference, it is laughable there are unevolved morons picking Hopkins over Calzaghe.

Round five was one of Calzaghe's worse rounds.

    Unproven Kessler opposed to Tarver!
