On the other hand, you have Merchant's comments towards guys like Mosley or his relationship with Steward. He is extremely friendly towards both.

And just so you know, Merchant has constantly commented on Wlad's weaknesses and called Vitali quitting the "most disgraceful thing he's ever seen".

 

On top of that I can only remember him being respectful of Pea.

He challenged Chavez on retiring in the eighth round of his second fight with Oscar, and Chavez went ballistic.

I think Merchant is a piece of sh*t, an ego-maniac, but I don't think he's a racist, or at least racism doesn't have anything to do with how he treats Floyd. Merchant is the only person I've ever heard say "I love you, Shane Mosley". That is clearly not racist. He doesn't like loud-mouthed fighters - which I can respect and appreciate. But his criticism of Floyd is usually over the top. Floyd was 100% right in saying that Merchant never gives him any credit.

 

One of Larry's favourite active fighters at the time was Marco Antonio Barrera, but even he took exception to the way he fought Pacquiao in their rematch.

 

Because Floyd behaves like an imbecile.

Note that Merchant has praised his boxing skill on numerous occasions...he just doesn't like Floyd's mentality.

Oh, all you people calling Merchant racist, or saying that he only likes brawlers...he was a fan of Pernell Whitaker, so that doesn't make much sense.

Larry Merchant is often goofy, but to make it racial is even goofier. It may be that he has a difficult time with narcistic people who who make disrespectful, ignorant statements, and Floyd and RJJ both fall into that category. I for one can not understand why someone with the talent that Floyd has would need to say and do the things he does, other than beleiving that stirring the pot would increase the gate.
