Did it really start with the Jeremy Williams KO? his fight with Wlad where he had him down 3 times wern't a good determination because those knock downs were shady at best and Wlad fell more than anything. And even after the knock downs Wlad won every round besides them. Most think he lost the first James Toney fight and in the second people were raving about his "improvement" in the second Toney fight. But most people feel a victory over a shot 5'9 heavyweight is no determination of how good he is.Not to mention Toney barely got by a tomato can in his next fight. And his "mythical power" he still hasn't Ko'd a top 30 guy yet so that's out the window. And his cast iron chin which was shattered by the feather fisted Mcline. But that being said he showed he has heart and he can go 12 rounds and win UD's.
It really got out of control. Last week I got into it with some posters claiming he would not only beat Ibeabuchi, but had a better chin then Tua. Better chin then Tua, I'm not kidding. ****ing ridiculous.
Oh just some Newbie who used to post here every so often. You might remember him......goes by the name 'Radar'! atsch
I think it was the Williams KO along with the fact that Peter fought the "manlier" fight against Wladimir. He came forward and wanted to slug, while WK clinched a lot and was determined to box. The fact that Wladimir fought such a timid fight -- due mostly to his confidence issues at that time, I believe -- made something of a myth out of Peter. The worst part is I think Peter believes this -- or did believe this -- himself. He has improved his boxing and deserves credit for that, but I just don't see him ever having the craft to beat a variety of fighters to unify or to stay upright against today's WK. But I like him and hope he keeps winning.
Yea I like him too because it seems like he'll fight anybody. It's just strange that he took to many flush shots from Klit and never went down and McCline put him down 3 times...it seems like something has happened to his chin since the Klit fight. Klit must have put a pretty big dent in it or something. :think
It's simply because people want to see an exciting power punching heavyweight so they put all their hope into peter. He had an impressive KO record against very low quality opposition and was promoted very well as the hardest puncher ever.
yep he had posters like Zackman baited hooked and reeled in. But at the same time it's not like he's terrible he can still give anybody a good fight and should not be counted out against anybody.
I already mentioned it in another thread but Klitschko's 204 punches landed in their fight definetly had thier toll on Peter's chin.
wlad was the only real puncher that he had faced, Toney certainly does not quailfy.I could see getting caught and having a flash knock down but 2 more times in the next round was surprising for sure. I think he was caught off guard and would still consider him to have a sound chin, look at his head it's like a block and should be able to with stand some punishment.
Its like with someone who sink, he would grab an open razor to survive. Peter looked good as a prospect and some people miss the times when a single fighter ruled whole division (Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, ...). So even Peter was highly unskilled some people believe he might knock everybody out .... the hype begins with unreasonable hope.
It's like cattle who just follow but really don't know why. I require a liitle bit of proof before I jump on a band wagon.
The problem is that most of his fans can tell the difference between what he is and what they wish he was.
