yes but we're looking for explanations of size absences in the sport & nations history, poverty too accounts for that.

Ireland produced Maher, Sharkey, Gardner, Madden, Coffey who were a long way ahead of any Hw's Scotland produced, even Roche, McAlinden, Doyle,Rogan, McBride and a load more were better without getting into the diaspora Sullivan, Corbett, Tunney, Gibbons, Braddock, Loughran, Conn, Quarry, Cooney et al. Smaller country but strange as the socio-economics and genetics are quite similar. Also the number one sport in Ireland is/has been GAA(hurling and football) which require big, athletic men.

Of course it does you are 100% correct. Just look at the amount of Latino fighters there are, and have been over the years. Then break down what weights they fought / fight in.

Then study the levels of poverty in those countries.

I don't believe Latino's are necessarily genetically smaller, just that the poverty that stunts growth development has lasted longer in those countries. In the same way that inner city poverty stunts growth and development in countries that are considered wealthy. Glasgow being a perfect example.

I thought it was genetic but after a quick google I found out that 200 years ago the further north you went the taller the people were. It was in the early 19th century that English started towering above scots. Its all down to health and medicine. The scots live poorer and are less healthy than the rest of the uk

None of this explains the relative much greater success of the Irish and to a lesser extent English and Welsh Heavies

Because for the last 100 years Scottish people have been the smallest in the uk. Average hight being 5 foot 8. There have been much less big guys walking into boxing gyms in Scotland than there have in England Ireland and Wales. Plus boxing is more popular in Ireland and always has been and England has a much bigger population than Scotland

I don't think we'll ever see a world class Scottish heavy. I'm Scottish and i can tell you first hand the country is full of midgets compared to England and Wales. Even a 2 hour drive down the road to Newcastle and I can see a huge difference in average male hight.

most of these guys are Americans... with ancestry in Ireland, or moved away when young, not the same at all. they had the advantages of a more complimentary life.

Scotland has always been noted for its Weeman!

Really? Care to give an example of an Irish Heavyweight more successful than the East Ham born and raised Lennox Lewis?

Or is this based on white Brits & Irish?

I think for the purpose of this thread we're talking native Celts and Anglo Saxons.
PS No Irish HW comes near Lennox but with his West Indies genes and Canadian boxing background he hardly qualifies in this discussion.
